Re: The everything Gruden thread
What is AJ Smith's role? He's got a successful past of building a team. Does he have a say in all of this?

Re: The everything Gruden thread
Before even thinking of replacing Gruden I would hope that higher management will wait to see if the team will play hard for him the rest of the way. To me, that's a key factor in allowing him to continue as HC.
As for the ability of the players, some of that can be addressed with personnel changes in the offseason but right now Gruden needs to get a solid team effort out of the current players the rest of the way. If he does, I would hope that he will have earned another season as HC. If he doesn't, it wouldn't bother me in the least if he were to be fired.

As for Jay Gruden, I don't have the stats to back it up but I think that rookie coaches who struggle early on but turn it around usually do it for the next team they coach

Re: The everything Gruden thread
I know we all hate on Haslett. But what is he suppose to do when these dummies are busting a basic cover 2?

Re: The everything Gruden thread
the solutions are obvious and achievable to me:
1. hire a GM 2. fire haslett 3. increase the college and NFL scouting dept budget so that we are top 15 in scout spending 4. cut/let walk - rak, bowen, pualsen, chester, porter, clark, riley (perhaps roberts, coefield [health questions], and garcon) 5. add a starter level FS, RT, CB1 or CB2, mlb 6. dont go back to RG3 |

1. i think our FA approach of spending money on the pass rush and not so much the secondary was in part due to haslett's wish to "get after the qb and everything else will take care of itself" ... haslett is absolutely to blame for us not being able to get to the QB. 2. he is a below average coach at best. good coaches can get more out of less or deal with injuries or mask weaknesses. he has had some good games but overall he must go. |

Re: The everything Gruden thread
It's also not his fault when the offense can only put up 3 points after the defense gets three turnovers. I still think he needs to go, but that alone is not going to solve the problems the team has.

Re: The everything Gruden thread
Haslett has an extensive body of work that says "I am a mediocre DC". That's why he should go if we can get someone who is significantly better.

Re: The everything Gruden thread
I don't think people realize how the offense and defense play hand in hand. If we go up even 17-0 early with those turnovers. It changes the whole game for our defense.

Wow...we blew the protection? Is this fcking clown serious? You can't play action and expect Morris et al to protected when they overload one side and send he house. He sounds like RG3. No wonder nobody takes responsibility or is held accountable! Get this garbage ass mofo out of here!

Re: The everything Gruden thread
I just found out that Gruden has a fully guaranteed 5-year contract (for some incomprehensible reason since he's a rookie coach), so I think we should all forget about the possibility of his getting fired at the end of the season. It would be bad business.
On the other hand, I would guess that the probability that The Turk will be visiting some assistant coaches at the end of this season is nearing 100%.
