Like I was saying though, you can't say that TO isn't a great reciever. He's not a good teammate, but he's a very good reciever.

greatness is very relative. stats are just a part of that.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I do agree with that statement to an extent, but history doesn't show that. To cross sports, Bobby Jones is recognized as one of the greatest golfers, but he was a racist. Same with Ty Cobb. It's difficult to say that greatness is relative because history doesn't always support your arguement.

What Terrell Owens does on the football field is great. He's one of very few recievers EVER with 100 TD catches. He's a very good reciever.

If you had told me this morning that this thread had enough legs to last 10 pages, I would have said you were crazy. I stand corrected.

the first thing that caught gibbs attention was the YPC stat from both moss and patten that is the reason gibbs pursued them in the first place, now of course gibbs would not have gone after a player like owens because it is so well documented that owens is an asshole. if you think gibbs doesn't factor in a players stats when deciding whether or not to go after them then you are naive(sp).

it's because we've switched from discussing portis to discussing stats.

Re: Portis Overrated?

you just rephrased what I said right there - stats & intangibles. T0 being an asshole is intangible. Moss, Patten and Portis's work ethic are too. and that speaks more to Gibbs than whatever edge others may have in stats.

i think you and i are basically saying the same thing except i believe coaches look at a players stats moreso than you . a players stats show his production on the field and coaches want players that produce but most coaches, especially gibbs, will not sign a player solely on that players stats. good stats and a good team player attitude must go hand in hand for coach gibbs.

Re: Portis Overrated?

If the redskins were 9-3 and leading the division (3 close losses) would we be having this discussion?I highly doubt it!!!! He is not overrated.I believe he is a complete back run, catch, and block.Do whatever the team asks. Most other top backs are lacking in one of those categories.

no you're right, just explaining why judging Portis solely by the numbers in his (already very productive) stats and salary alone is vastly UNDERrating him

My guess from your stupid ass coments is that Tatum Bell is not a system back. Also Champ seem to be a system CB as he is regulary burnt on the bomb.

Your views are way off. What you are saying to all of us is that we never complain about our team. My suggestion to you before you spew off false facts is go check the 10,000 + post on this site and come back and chat.
