Portis Overrated? Agree or Disagree

Clinton Portis is one of the most overrated players in the NFL as he has one of the wealthiest contracts for a running back. He is not consistent and we can not rely on him in third down situations. Pay attention to the Redskins play calling, you will notice that our drives often end when we start giving him the ball. If he can't find yards in the first quarter, then he most likely won't find yards for the whole game. Opponents have commented on the size of our offensive line and their play so I do not believe that it is their falt. Sometimes in the NFL a running back must find a way to make something out of nothing, the great ones do. This could be why we have problems finishing games. He never seems to produce when it matters, such as LT did in the forth quarter and in overtime against our then top 10 defense. "I know I am not the only one who feels this way, Ask former Redskin Brian Mitchell."

Re: Portis Overrated?

Is this a joke? My god man, how is it that a player that has had 1000+ yards is four season be overrated (and probably 1300+ yards per season)?

Sure, he isn't getting the touch downs and the 3rd down carries but you think that could be the coaching staff's or O-Line's fault?

About the only running backs I'd take over him are Alexander or Tomlinson.

Re: Portis Overrated?

BS to that!
Portis has produced this season and last season and shit every season in the NFL. 4 seasons for over 1000 yds; up there with the best of them. He has played through injury and plays 100% on non Portis plays as well. He's got TD's and touches... Wouldn't consider him a problem or overrated player at this point. Maybe you should give Sally Jenkins a shout!

Re: Portis Overrated?

Dude you are sadly mistaken. He is on the verge of having the most yards in one season by any Redskin back. What else could you ask for in a back?

Re: Portis Overrated?

He may not be LT but he is definatly ONE of the top Five RBs in the League today..

The man is a machine and i hope he is here in DC for many years to come, and if for some reason doesnt break the franchise record this year. I would be willing to bet he will before he leaves.

Don't forget about his blocking and receiving? I'd be shocked if there is a much better blocking RB in the league with more than 1000 yards right now.

Re: Portis Overrated?

I think the op is misinformed. CP is about to break the single season rushing record of Stephen Davis but he is overrated?? Uh.....ok. :yeahright

This is got to be the most illinformed post of crap I have ever read. What's your next post going to be about, How Joe Gibbs is ruining the Redskins and how he should have never come back? Go read the Joe Bugel Chat on Redskins.com if you would like some insight on our running game.

Re: Portis Overrated?

Portis has 1,079 yards this season, becoming only the ninth rusher in league history to gain at least 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons.

YES HE SUCKS ASS...

Re: Portis Overrated?

The question isn't whether Portis is overrated, the answer is simple. Portis in certain situations of the big games that you refer to could have been given a better play because despite not getting the first down he still rushed for over one hundred yards against those teams that should have shut him down. He started slow this year in TD. But know is tied with several RBs with 7. So He's getting stronger and stronger every week.
