Re: Wft quarterback of the future

First of all, I give it a 50-50 chance Snyder will be forced to sell the team. The NFL is quiet now, but when the season is over and not so much in the news, there is a good chance the other owners will cast him out. More sexist charges will come out that we don’t know about now. Some ppl say, “all the teams have done this”. Wrong - they haven’t even been charged with anything like this, much less proved it. Snyder claims to be the Redskin’s ultimate fan, but he has brought nothing but high prices, a rundown stadium, many, many losses, the erosion of a once-huge fan base, and finally, disgrace and shame on a storied and outstanding franchise. Only when Snyder was FORCED to remove himself TOTALLY from the team’s management and personnel decisions has the team been able to improve. Only owners like Jerry Jones, who know how bad Snyder has been for his NFC East competitor, still support him - at least publicly. So Snyder may be gone.

Second, the team can’t wait until 2022 to try to draft a premiere QB. Some may say Rivera/Kyle Smith will try to get a FA QB. But they have really STAYED AWAY from FA, even when they were in positions of dire need. For instance, they picked up No TE’s, except Logan Thomas - even when they had nothing after Reed left. I don’t see them changing next year.

The WFT will try to build the team via draft picks, UDFA and a FEW FA. They will spend their huge cap savings to keep Scherff, Allen, Payne on the team. So, in my opinion, the WFT will keep Smith for one more season and DRAFT the best draft pick available, versus getting an older FA QB.

The question is: what QB will be there in the draft for the WFT?? . Not much if they don’t TRADE UP. By trading their first and second round picks they can get in a good position for a premiere QB. They DON’T have to get the #1 pick in the draft. They just have to trade up to get the QB they want. That’s what they will do. I trust Rivera and Kyle Smith to get the best QB out of the draft. Kyle Smith has proved himself to getting QUALITY STARTERS from the dregs of the draft - sixth and seventh round picks and even UDFA. Most teams are happy to get a Special Team starter from picks that low. Smith has been a MASTER, at finding rookie starters that have been passed over by every other team- multiple times! He and Rivera will lock into their future QB and then trade up to get him. Alex Smith will be the mentor for the new QB - just like he did for Mahommes.

I heard from tinfoil tommy says the NFL is guiding the WFT to the NFC East title to make the team more desirable to potential buyers.

LOL. Sure, that's why we get all the bad spots and bogus penalty calls and non-calls in our favor! Tin foil is right. LOL

I hope the league makes us even more desirable by winning the SB

Re: Wft quarterback of the future

If Stafford becomes available, which at this point it is not entirely clear that will even happen, and they can figure out a way to get him and not jeopardize the integrity of the rest of the roster due to how much $$ will be tied up in the QB position, then great. I'm not sure it can be done, so I'm not really a fan of that move, but that's not my job so we'll see.

This would be my plan of action if I were in charge - which clearly I am not...

Resign these soon to be free agents:
C Sims
B Scherff
C Roullier
N Sundberg
KPL
R Darby
J Reaves

Free agent targets:
A Villanueva
Corey Davis
Trey Burton
Neville Hewitt
Daniel Carlson

Draft a QB - wherever it makes sense, even if you have to move up/trade a pick or two to get your guy.

Draft BPA, hopefully finding some depth for:
OL
LB
DB
TE
RB
WR

Win it all!

If Scherff can stay healthy from now on, he's perennial PB material. Have to be daft to not want to keep him as the anchor of the OL. But yes, that contract needs to be more cap friendly than Collins behemoth.

Nobody wants to see him leave. He is a top OG. He has missed games in 4 out of the last 4 years. He is also 30, a little older than the normal player coming off a rookie contract. (Tag is a factor).

The question is how much are you willing to pay to keep him.

At what AAV would you let him walk?

13 AAV. I wouldnt do more than something like 4 years/52M/22M guaranteed. I think this is below what we already offered him. Currently hes making 15 M on the tag and is the highest paid guard. I like him but hes an aging guard. NEVER DRAFT A FUCKING GUARD IN THE TOP 10. Guard position is one of the easiest to fill imo.

Perhaps consider the transition tag and we could match any offer. If no teams offer, then he is ours for another year but lower than the fran tag number.

Re: Wft quarterback of the future

Talk about cap hell - the Eagles are MINUS $69 mill (31 out of 32) and we are PLUS $47 mill to be used toward FA and to keep some of the top players on the team, instead of the steady talent drain that we’ve seen for two decades.

Keep Allen, Scherff. Dump Collins. Keep Alex Smith for one more season as the mentor / backup QB.

I just saw an article basically saying the team should go for a veteran QB like Stafford or Newton. Why? Rivera and Kyle Smith have worked to make this a young squad, with very cheap rookie and UDFA contracts. Why hire an older player like Stafford who will cost $30 mill a year?

The top three draft picks will go for:

QB
FS
WR or OL

I think the FA will be for keeping our best DL or OL players. We can also use some decent money for a top-end WR to take the pressure off McLaurin. Teams will double-team McLaurin until we have a really good WR #2. I think Cam Sims will continue to see more action and he’s really looking good - maybe as the starting Slot WR. I’d like to see what Wright has to offer, instead of Steve Sims, Jr - who drops at least one pass every game.

QB in the draft is the answer. I have NO Doubt that Kyle Smith can find a very good QB in the draft, but seeing 4-6 QB go to other teams first, really bleeds off the best talent. This is the time to make a trade to get into the top 3-4 QB picks. We don’t have to get the #1 or #2 QB in the 2021 draft. Kyle Smith can find us a franchise QB if we move up 5-10 spots in the draft.

I hate to say this, because I was a Haskins fan at the start of the season, but we can’t win with him at QB. Not unless the defense has amazing games like the last one. If he is the QB for the last games, we’ll probably lose them.

But it’s a Win/Win with Haskins at QB. If he plays poorly, we move up in the draft because we’ll lose games . If he plays average, his value with go up for a trade. If he plays “lights out” (which he won’t) then he will be the answer next year!

Getting the draft right at QB next year, will foretell the next five years of the Rivera era. I have no doubt that Rivera/Smith can get it right, as long as Snyder doesn’t interfere! They may just have to trade up some (5-10) moves up to get the elite and franchise QB to move this offense into the top 10. Trading our second round pick is a small price to pay for a dozen years of excellence at QB!
