Moving on, too damn busy in the office today to look at hits across the various formations/plays, but it seems obvious RG is gonna take more contact when...he's holding the ball!? The read/option seems like the last thing we'd wanna do. The pistol can be run without QB keeps but we've mixed it up some there too. Just don't see any reason to run that stuff when you can minimize the contact to RG's knee with Mike's style offense?

The Cleveland game made me remember how impressive Shanahan and Elway were together in Denver.
Do you agree it makes Almo better since the defenders are frozen with indecision?

Yeppers, but much of that indecision is based on RG keeping the ball, right?

No, actually it's based on the possibility of him keeping the ball...

Having said that I'm no great fan of exposing RG to extra hits in the option even if he lays the ball off to someone else. A lot different than college, all these guys are big, fast and mean.

Well yeah or not keeping it. Point being that it makes the run game more effective.

re: RG3 cleared to play (update)

The thing with Griffin and hits, is this. He doesn't want to take them and he learns. He wants to win, yes and in college, I think he could take the hits and feel Superman'ish. But as this season has gone on, he is understanding the strength these guys are hitting at.

I remember the first game he was getting popped hard because he was selling the play fake so well. Then the coaches told him to show he didn't have the ball, and now he still sells the play fake, but is very quick at letting the defenders know he doesn't have it.

Next hard hit really came at Atlanta, when he cut inside instead of stepping out, you don't see him do that much any more, it seems like he always takes an angle that puts him out of bounds a step before a defender is near. After this hit, I expect to see his sliding technique improve, and his recognition of when to slide.

Ultimately, his baller mentality, and his intelligence will put the two in sync, and he will protect himself better. In my opinion, we have been seeing the "speed of the nfl game" in action, because no one goes half speed against RGIII. If they do, they get burned.

Agree with all of this, and like others have pointed out the two injuries came downfield when he's scrambling. On the other hand, I think he's been lucky to not take an awkward hit in the backfield when the option or pistol gets blown up. While passing out of the pistol can be effective I don't like how often a defender is right there when RG is planting to throw.

We know he's mobile (and that's why I like the roll outs this week), but it's hard to tell if that ligament is stretched/weakened and what a sideways impact could do. Really don't want to see him carry the ball this week, would like to see us try to win without it.

re: RG3 cleared to play (update)

I have a gut feeling that RGIII gets an easy 100 yards rushing tomorrow despite all the concern. I don't think it'll come from the option. I think all year teams stopped blitzing because if what he's done. Now w a possible knee brace I think they'll dial up the blitzes and he'll get a bunch of easy 20+ yd runs, stepping out of bounds, avoiding the blitz. I think he's healthier and faster than people will think

The pistol look causes a moment of indecision for the defense. That moment allows griffin the opportunity to plant. If it weren't for the pistol, rg3 would be bit BEFORE he could even plant. Rg3 takes less hits BECAUSE of the pistol. Well continue to use it until we have a good Oline

I'm not a coach nor do I call the plays for the Redskins, but since you seem to know more then the general public about our play calling... Why would we stop using something that is impossible to stop right now with an even BETTER Oline? Wouldn't it make our offense even better?

Maybe I'm just looking to deep in to what you know which only a coach for the Redskins would.
