Can we trade for Smoot now?

Smoot could help us in this offseason. Guess it's too late to trade, but could he be picked up if cut by Minn? Get well soon Shawn Springs and Ade Jimoh and Carlos Rogers.

I don't know exactly why Minnesota would let Smoot go after one season? I am sure their will be some free agent corners that come available that aren't that bad and can contribute.

My guess is they could be looking to clean house and rid themselves of the off the field embarrassments of this year.

New coaches, new system, new direction, makes sense.

Even when healthy he wasn't playing all that well.

Maybe the skins could trade LA for smoot. At least the skins would get something for LA instead of just letting LA go on his way like they will do after this season.

I don't know if want Smoot back unless he is 100% and comes at the right price. His value is lower than it was 1 year ago. He is still better than the Ade.

Re: Can we trade for Smoot now?

All this makes sense maybe Smoot will be our Trotter and come back for a lower pay and have two pro bowl seasons. I couldn't think earlier why they would release him after paying him the big bucks, but true new management cleaning house and injuries, anything can happen in the NFL as far as trades etc... Smoot sitting home again this year for post season, I wonder if he has been on the horn with any of the skins saying damn I leave and you guys make it to the playoffs and I am home again watching.

Not a good trade, no body is going to trade for him with the salary he has.

I agree. Not only does LA have a huge contract he has done almost nothing these last 2 years making his trade value low. I suspect LA will just be sent on his way at the end of the season with the skins getting nothing in return but freedom from his contract.

Re: Can we trade for Smoot now?

I have no idea why lavar would be cut. I have heard that we would take a bigger cap hit by cutting him then by keeping him on the roster for next year. Plus, the guy hasn't been healthy and we would be wasting a hell of alot by just cutting him loose. I would expect that we keep him for next season...now that GW is gonna be here...and then we'll see how he does if he can get healthy. I think he'll stay...and i think he will tear it up next year. The guy is a fan favorite...and he is very capable. He has just had the injury bug. Give him this offseason...hopefully he comes in healthy next year...and i think we have an elite defense with a playmaking lavr, marcus washington and lemar marshall all back next year.

On smoot...i dont think its realistic to expect he would come here. He might not clear waivers if he was cut...and even if he did...someone would offer him more money then we would be willing to...cause we would sign him as a nickel corner...and someone else would pick him up as at least a number 2 guy

A couple of reasons why LaVar could end up being cut.

#1 His monster contract. He's also due a roster bonus of $6.5M this offseason. The team has already shown in the past they're not afraid of absorbing a large cap hit if it means getting rid of dead weight (Coles). Yes it will be a huge bullet to bite but when you look at the long-term impact of wiping his contract off our slate it makes more sense to do it now rather than later.

#2 The fact that this defense has succeeded without him in the lineup.

#3 His speaking out/distractions in the press don't help his cause any, no matter how insignificant they may be.

Personally I'd be shocked if he's back with the Redskins next year, both from a financial standpoint and on the field standpoint. He's grossly overpaid and the defense has gotten the job done just fine without him.

Matty, you have told me a million times back when I said LA should be traded (back when he was worth something) that there is no way the skins can trade him because of the cap hit. Period, end of discussion. I see now that you think the cap hit is no big deal. Also your #2 point is what I have been saying all last year. Thanks for seeing the light.

I would also add that as far as this coaching staff is concerned, LA has done absolutely nothing for them. I know he's been hurt and all but the bottom line is that LA has not done anything to make this staff take notice. I only wish the skins had traded him back when I suggested and been able to get something of value for him.

Could anyone tell how much Lavar was on the field Sunday. I could only remember seeing him on one play but I have no idea how much he did play. It sucks watching the game with alot of people and half are tlking about their hair or something like that.
