Marty to the Jets?
I heard a rumor that the Chargers may buy out the final year of Schottenheimer's contract, freeing him up to go to the Jets (who supposedly are interested).
This leads me to two questions: 1. Will Brees or Rivers join him in NY? 2. Who would take over the Chargers, which would have to be one of the more coveted jobs in the NFL with LT and AG?

Re: Marty to the Jets?
The chargers job would be one where the coach doesn't want lots of control. They have a pretty strong GM there so the new coach would need to not want GM type powers. That rules out a couple people who might be good candidates. I know Ferentz looks like a good fit but he is gonna want power so no dice. Marty has always been a get you close type coach so they are probably very close to taking the next step. A good organizer would fit. Mariucci is too soft although he fits the area. Sherman only had one bad year really. Maybe him though he totally does not fit the area. Martz? They'd be a monster on O if he went there. Maybe Martz.

Re: Marty to the Jets?
My understanding is that Marty will remain in San Diego for next season. The Chargers would be crazy to ax him when they went 10-6.

Re: Marty to the Jets?
How about Norval? He's looking for a job and his best offensive schemes are centered around a great RB and TE. I doubt that Marty will be going anywhere though. He's just about in a position to make the Chargers #1 in the AFC West next year.

Re: Marty to the Jets?
I think Marty will stay in San Diego and Norv won't take the job at the Jets. Could Norv end up sitting out a season to end up coaching the Cowboys in 2007? Bet he's got plenty of money to see what's available next season.
