Michael Robinson vs.Antwaan Randle El
For the past week or 2 I have seen alot of talk on this site about Antwaan Randle El and how he will be a good fit here. I decided I wanted to play the devils Advocate and present an option in the draft who may be the same type of player, but he wouldn't cost us as much.
The player is Michael Robinson QB of Penn State. Mike is 6-2 217 and very athletic. He want to go the league as a QB, but has been convinced during the senior bowl to play some WR. A strong leader on the team, he even received votes for team captain as a true freshman. He has played every offensive skill position at Penn State. In the 2004 Season he lead the team with 485 yards and three touchdowns on 33 catches as a reciever. He is projected to be a second or third round pick. I believe he may be a player worth drafting and will cost considerably less than Randle El will as a free agent comming off of a Super Bowl team. Discuss

Go with Robinson. At least he has the potential to be an above average player.

Re: Michael Robinson vs.Antwaan Randle El
I don't see the great advantage in these "slash" players. i would rather have a standout WR that can't play QB to someone who is okay at both.

Re: Michael Robinson vs.Antwaan Randle El
Granted it was whoever says what on sportscenter, but they said that Micheal Robinson is looking more and more like a SAFTEY in the NFL than anything else. But if hes around in the later rounds, it couldnt hurt to draft him and try him out at WR/#3 Quarterback role.

Re: Michael Robinson vs.Antwaan Randle El
Mike Robinson is not going to be Randle-El. He IS going to be the next H. Ward. Watch film from Robinson's Jr. year, he was the best WR on the team, has good hands, he can take a hit, he can GIVE a hit, and he blocks great. He might even be stronger and faster than Ward already. I know I love PSU so I am partial but watch the films and you will agree. He would be a great pick up for us in the 3rd round if he is still there. I see him going higher though once the combine stats come out.

Rumors were flying around that PSU was going to play him at saftey this last year. Glad they didn't but coaches said they thought he could have been an All American at saftey.

Re: Michael Robinson vs.Antwaan Randle El
I say why not Robinson if he falls to us in the 5th round, if he sucks it doesn't cost us much and if he turns out to be our answer on ST's then we got him cheap with room to grow as a WR...but we will still need to sign a WR to go with Moss and Patten

Anyway, I really don't think either Hagans or Robinson is any sort of short term answer for the Skins. You could look to someone like Matt Jones in Jax and see that he developed slowly down there (though he did come on at the end of the season he is also 6-5 and ran a 4.2 . . . don't see Robinson or Hagans having that same skill set). In any case, first year WR's as a rule (excluding Anquan Boldin, Terry Glenn, Randy Moss, and maybe some others who slip my mind) always struggle and you can double the probability of that happening when you are talking about switching positions. Not saying they can't be good (I guess Hines Ward is the poster child of QB's turned WR - Issac Bruce actually played QB in college too and certainly there are a ton of others) just that the Skins need someone who can play now, not in two or three years. Add to that the fact that Pat Kirwan from NFL Radio/NFL Network/NFL.com says Robinson projects more as a 3rd down back than as a WR.

Re: Michael Robinson vs.Antwaan Randle El
just a quick add on to this topic from the Senior BOwl Chat on ESPN:
Kevin (State College): Where do you think Michael Robinson will go in the draft and what position would be a best fit for him? Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay: I think Michael Robinson's best fit in the NFL will be as a versatile receiver, running back and return specialst type. Look for Robinson to come off the board in the fourth or fifth round.
