Pennington

well well well anyone surprised....lol? Can you say Ramsey to the Jets?

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports a person close to New York Jets QB Chad Pennington seemed resigned Friday, Feb. 17, to the likelihood of the quarterback being released in the coming days. "It looks like they're ready to move on," the person said of the Jets. The moment of truth likely will occur next week, when GM Mike Tannenbaum and Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, are expected to meet at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. It will take a lot of bending from both sides to produce a reworked contract. Pennington is scheduled to make a total of $9 million in 2006 (a $3 million roster bonus, due March 3, plus $6 million in base salary), but he is being asked to take an almost-unheard-of reduction. The Jets want him to forfeit the bonus and reduce his base pay to $1 million, with a chance to recoup the difference with playing-time incentives. There is always a chance the stalemate could end before March 3, but both sides appear entrenched in their positions.

Yeah, not sure how this would work with their current cap situation which is a complete mess - you think the Skins are bad the Jets are even further in the hole.

Re: Pennington

chad has missed 23 of his last 48 games. He may not be able to throw over 20 yards (and his arm sucked hard before the injury as well).

I don't know how they can release him, but he's not worth the money.

Plus, why trade Pennington's broken arm with Brees' now broken arm?

Re: Pennington

Those are both good points. I wouldn't be surprised if PR heads up north. It will be interesting to see what we get for him, though - the Jets are kind of over a barrel in terms of what they need versus what they can afford.

Re: Pennington

Drew Brees isn't going anywhere. For one, I think the Chargers prefer him to Rivers, but that's just my opinion. However, I know they can't get rid of him now. If he gets healthy and is ready to go for the season, he'll start, if not Rivers will, but they need them both in case one falls on their face. The Chargers aren't unloading either QB any time soon.

rivers looked terrible in relief too, so i'm guessing their pretty happy about their QB "problem" right now.
