Potential problem with Sean Taylor

I am a very happy Redskins fan with all of our recent signing, but the signing of Archuleta had me a bit worried. Almost everyone in the Redskins community was happy that day, except perhaps Sean Taylor. Arch is going to be making alot more than he is, and atleast I feel Sean Taylor is the better player out of the two, and he definately has more potential to become THE dominant safety in the NFL than Archuleta (bc of skill,youth,etc.). If I was ST I would be upset that I was getting paid less than Arch, if not at first, but after my lovely agent Drew informed me. I do not know about you guys, but I have a feeling ST might holdout, or try to do some sort of renegotiation with his contract. Either way what might happen, could cause a potential problem with the team. I understand right now his major concern is his court issues, so he can actually get on the field, but after that is over(which I am crossing my fingers for), he will go to this. There has been talk in other threads about this, but I do not know if it has actually has it's own thread. I want to hear what everyone thinks about this.

honestly sean is a pretty good guy when it comes to the team. regardless of his off the field problems, he has been a leader and a great team guy.

ST needs at least one, more likely 2 seasons of continued on-field dominance coupled with keeping his nose clean off the field, before he should even consider a hold-out. Until then, even thinking of a hold-out would be asinine.

Agreed, except before you even get that far ST needs to keep himself out of jail before he can think about renegotiating or holding out.

We're talking about the same guy that wouldn't call back his coach last offseason when he was MIA from voluntary workouts? I don't want to rehash this whole argument, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that Taylor hasn't always put the "team" first.

I am gonna have to agree with him, ST hasn't always been all about the team, or he wouldn't have missed workouts and hey maybe would have thought a bit before pulling a gun on someone. But again, this is NOT the point of this thread, I am only talking about the potential holdout, that is all.

thats very subjective to say. I'm just going by th evidence that his teammates have said. he also has stated he completely plans on being at the offseason workouts too.

....and if he follows through on that, my opinion of him will change dramatically. For now, I'm still skeptical........just my opinion though (I recognize I'm probably in the minority).

Re: Potential problem with Sean Taylor

Yeah I'm concerned that he'll hold out. But then again there isn't much precedent for players holding out after only two years in the league. Portis is the only one I can think of, and that ended in a trade.

First he has to get cleared of his charges. Then he could even start to think about holding out. If he's cleared, I doubt he'd hold out quite yet. Rosenhaus must know that Taylor could get a lot more cash if he just distanced himself from the gun charge, played hard for a year or two, and then came back to the bargaining table.

Then again who knows what Rosenhaus is thinking. The guy's as greedy as they come.

I totally agree, not to mention we had good players restucture thier contracts so the team could bring in impact free agents. If Sean Taylor starts whining, that would just be a slap in thier face.

i think i heard somewhere that taylor's contract could allow him to earn up to 40 million if he meets certain incentives. If he makes the pro bowl, it would give him a 9 million bonus, i think.

Re: Potential problem with Sean Taylor

1) Sean Taylor doesn't have much barganing leverage right now with his trial coming up. They were going to try something like that last season, but this whole weapons, assault thing came up and they dropped the idea.

2) Sean needs to prove he has become a mature adult. Not a punk who spits on people, disrespects a hall of fame coach, skips workouts, and pulls guns on people. When he can do the right stuff off the field for just a year or so, I have a feeling Joe, Danny, and GW will work out a very nice payday for him.

3) plus Arch has been in the league for what 6 years, playing at a consistant high level. Sean has two years under his belt.

Re: Potential problem with Sean Taylor

ST will get his money eventually, no need for him to worry. If he beats his case and stays clean for a season, I think the Skins would be willing to restructure. Right now he doesn't have enough leverage.
