Aren't the Redskins in line for one or two Compensation Draft Choices for Smoot and Pierce Leaving?

Re: Compensation Draft Choices?

None

COMPENSATORY DRAFT PICKS: Compensation awarded by the league to teams who lost more UFAs than they signed. Compensation is in the form of extra draft picks added to the end of rounds three through seven. The quantity of picks is equivalent to the difference of UFAs signed to UFAs lost. For example, if a team loses 4 UFAs and signs 1 UFA, they will receive three Compensatory Selections. The value of the picks is determined by the difference of the contracts signed by the players lost and those acquired. The highest possible compensatory pick is the 31st of the third round (91st overall). If a team has signed an equal number or more UFAs than it lost, no "Compensatory Picks" are awarded.

teams do get comp picks for value difference in players' contracts though.
smoot and pierce ended up with 61mill or so and the two guys we signed totalled closer to 25-30mill, so we'll probably get a 7th.

Re: Compensation Draft Choices?

So what you are saying the Redskins have found a way to circumvent the compensation picks to? I will do my research and double check but I disagree with you on this.

i'm taking straight from the guy that predicts these things very very accurately (it was linked here a while ago). differences in contract values factor in, as well as playing time, but number of players is the thing that can get you 3rd rounders.

It's not circumvention, it's just part of the process, but comp picks are given out during a secret meeting, so the whole equation isn't very open to the public.

NFL | Comp Pick Notes - from www.KFFL.com
Mon, 1 Apr 2002 14:46:41 -0800

The NFL awarded a total of 32 compensation picks Monday to a total of 18 teams. The Bills led the way with four picks. The Redskins will receive a compensatory pick even though they did not suffer a net loss of compensatory free agents. The free agents Washington lost were ranked higher than the ones they signed by a specified point differential. The Dallas Cowboys have received the most comp picks in NFL history, 23 since the league began awarding picks in 1993. Buffalo is second with 20 comp picks.

http://www.kffl.com/popuphotw.php?id=89344

so you can get them without a net loss of players. still looking for the preditcion thread though.

Re: Compensation Draft Choices?

that's just proving to CRT etc that you can get picks without losing more guys than signing in one year.

I can't find the forum where the crazy comp pick prediction guy lives I'm not the one that originally pointed it out, but it was a VERY sound arguement that we're going to get a no better than a 7th.
