Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?

With the Gmen after an OLB and no chance of Lavar coming back to us, I'd say the odds were both teams looking for OLB help in the draft. Now he's with the Gmen, does that mean more chance of us picking up a quality OLB in the draft?

Depends. There's no guarantee the Giants were going after an OLB, and no guarantee that we'll draft one either. Remember the "best player available" philosophy.

Our only hope that the Lavar situation works to our advantage is the hope that his steady decline continues with the Giants.

I don't think it could help us. In a best case situation, it would be a wash.

With the draft, who knows. The G-men might have been after a OLB but now they could draft a kicker that doesn't blow. We may draft an OLB but I agree with Beemnseven that at #53 we'll probably take a "best available".

he will help us enough on the field.if greg williams and the boys are right about lavar not playing within the system, and being out of position all the time,mr saunders and the boys on offense are really going to exploit #56

I won't say it's made the Giants better either. As of now, he's just the same LaVar that left us last year after not making any really huge plays.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?

I think Lavar makes them a little better in long yardage situations due to fact that they have good defensive ends. Are we gonna leave portis one on one with Lavar? hopefully not but we still have alot of speed so if brunell can pick up the blitz we shouldn't have to worry about it but you never know. Lavar could be out with a knee injury by the end of preseason. Who knows. The Giants still have a brutal schedule ahead of them so they will be beaten up some when we do play them.

Thats true. They will be tough. they don't have much depth though so hopefully we can wear them down

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?

Heres my take. Now everybody listen to me b/c I know all.

This will work in our favor b/c high-profile players rarely win 'revenge games' if their old team is a playoff contender (so TO stomping the 49ers is out) Think Drew Bledsoe, Deion (vs. The Cowboys), Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner (1-2 vs his former teams), and any others you can think of would be appreciated.

Plus I know LaVar and most of the fans have left on good terms but after watching an interview with him on NFL network in Giant blue I have to say he looks like the face of pure evil.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?

seeing lavar in a giants uniform pains me. i heard him on the john thompson show today talking about the the difference between the skins and giants organization and how the giants are all about football. and the how the giants D has better players on it with strahan and umerimera and the skins D doesnt have a real dominant name on it. lets see maybe thats why he didnt fit in our defensive players have to play in a system lavar not free lance. hate to see him on the giants but i sure g. williams will tell saunders the way to expose him.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?

I see it as a good move by the Giants. They didn't throw the whole bank at him to sign him. If he doesn't work out, they can let him go without destroying their salary cap. With Strahan and Umenyiora on the ends, with Arrington rushing the passer as well on 3rd downs, the Giants could have a tremendous pass rush. He might be overrated, but it's not like the guy is a total bum.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?

How does the Giants getting him help us in any way?

He will be extremely motivated against us. Lavar is a great player when he is motivated and he will be headhunting big time. All it takes is an open lane on Brunell and the Campbell era could begin. The last two years, the Giants have put Brunell out of the game.

That being said, I still think that the Redskins are better than the Giants because of Al Saunders.
