3rd STRING QB?
I think when it's all said and done it will be Hamden, Gibb's history with his backup's has been, they all have big arm's, and hamden has that, as well I believe Gibb's really does like a QB who can move, and hamden is very athletic, I saw him play a few week's ago and he looked very accurate, and it sound's like he had a pretty good game on sunday, the only probem he doesn't get a whole lot of playing time, right now he's backing up clint stoenher, [ who is going no where I might add ] probably a seniority thing, I think after you factor all the physical attributes that hamden posseses, and then factor in his age, he will get the job.

I think Hasselbeck's backup performance was too good to be overlooked. Hamden hasn't even proved himself in an NFL game yet. Then again we may be able to trade Hasselbeck at some point. I think after having a taste as a starter, albeit a short one, it would be hard to stomach 3rd string.

Personally, I don't see either of them as the guy. I don't really remember Gibb's taste in #3s. Anyone else remember?

Mark Rypien and Stan Humphries were at one point 3rd string QB's for Gibbs. They were two very different style of QB's.
Gibbs will evaluate all the QB's and decide right before September. Our 3rd string QB might not even be on the roster yet. Gibbs aquired Doug Williams late in the preseason in 1986 or 1987. In 1987 Gibbs benched Jay Schroeder in midseason and replaced him with Doug Williams and we won the Superbowl that year. So for all you rabid die-hard Ramsey fans, don't worry. Gibbs will play which ever QB is playing well. Regardless of who is making how much money. Last edited by Defensewins; 05-11-2004 at 05:11 PM. |

While I can't see the Redskins carrying 4 QBs on the roster, I wonder if Hamden may develop 'elbow bursitis' or a 'hip flexor injury' and have to go on the I.R. for the season.. He's not going to play anyway, most 3rd string QB don't get much practice time other than running the scout team anyway so why not let him learn what he's missing while being in Europe? Hasselback is ok I guess, but I don't know he's the long term backup QB solution.

Tim deserves the 3rd string role. We've got two great QBs, and Tim did start last year and get experience. Hamdam will stay on the practice squad and mature for another year.

I was impressed by Hamdan on Sunday, shame he wasn't allowed to finish the final drive, Clint completely buggered it up.
He'll be Practice Squad. |

I agree, Hamdan is a talented young QB, just give him some time. This year I think the spot is Tim's.

Honestly, our third stringer may be Tom Tupa. With the depth we have on defense for special teams, we may keep an extra linebacker rather than a QB.

Hm, Tupa huh, thats be interesting. How many people can we keep on the practice squad. I think they want to be able to hold on to Hamdam, Hasselback, Cloman and mabye some of our running backs. It'll be easier to tell after june 1st cuts.

The practice squad is eight players, up from five in previous years. I doubt we'll hold two QB's - I'd say that if there is a third QB on the roster, there will not be one on the practice squad at all.

It will be Tim. He proved last year that he can handle NFL defenses even with a faulty offensive system.
