Randy Thomas
Hey Guys,
After reading the Randy Thomas article, saying how it will take a year from the injury (which was like week 15 last year) to fully recover. He still has 13 screws in his ankle. And he was one of our top linemen last year, our best guard, IMO. Is anyone worried that he wont be able to fully recover since he will be playing in grueling NFL contests 9 months after his injury? It would be a major blow if he wasnt full strength or , god forbid reinjures himself, going into the playoffs. What does the rest of The Warpath think?

Re: Randy Thomas
The only thing we can do is bring him along slowly, and have some depth ready to go behind him if need be. And keeping your fingers crossed doesn't hurt either.

Re: Randy Thomas
I'm worried as well. Injuries like that take rehab just to get back into game shape.

Re: Randy Thomas
I really hope we have some good depth this year.. guys that will be ready to step in and play. If Rabach, Jansen, Samuels and Dock remain healthy all year, we should be legit as an O-line. To tell you the truth, I wouldnt mind playing Thomas for half the game in weeks 1, 2, 3, or something like that just to make sure we dont re injure him. OF course the trainers and coaches know whats best, so i trust their judgement. I do like in the article how the doctor told Randy "its not going to get any worse".

Re: Randy Thomas
He'll probably get alot of rest in camp and play sparingly in the preseason.

Re: Randy Thomas
I've had several surgeries involving a lot of screws, plates and pins (4 surgeries). You have to take it slow and even when the bone is fully healed and grown around the metal, you'll need a few months to start weight-bearing activities and work your way up to your previous abilities little-by-little. After the required months of doing nothing with the affected body part, your muscle will be down to nothing and besides being careful not to break the bone from stress, you'll need some time to build your strength back up.
He won't be ready for the preseason or first half of the season unless he does out there with one weaker leg and a chance to re-injure it. A year sounds fair, expect him back in the second half if not closer to playoff time. |

By the start of the season he'll be 9 months out from the injury, sounds like he should be ready to go by this article. |

I'd LOVE to see him back earlier than I said, but I don't want him to risk injury to come back sooner. You could be right about him being ready to go early in the season, but I don't think he'll be playing at all in the preseason. |

Re: Randy Thomas
I think he is progressing very nicely and the NFL training staffs all around the league are the best in the business of getting people back onto the field. If there is a way for him to be on the field opening day he will be out there. I think we might see him in week 4 or 5 of the regular season, but I hope its much sooner!

Re: Randy Thomas
I trust Gibbs to do what is best on a safe side of the ledger because that is his history. He knows he'll need Thomas down the road and he'll do everything in his power to assure he wont come back too soon.
This could be a blessing because someone will get extended time with the starters at G through the Preseason and maybe the beginning of the regular season as well. Bugal and Gibbs will figure out who is best suited and fast track him which could be a great thing later in the year when injuries tend to mount. This should help our depth provided Thomas comes back at full speed even if it isn't until the 2nd half of the season. Someone else should come out of this preseason much more ready to play in real games. Could be BIG later on. |

Re: Randy Thomas
I think some people in this thread have taken away the wrong message from the article. A snippet:
"He knows such injuries often take a year to fully heal, but Thomas already is going through every drill in the organized team activities. He also plans to full participate in mini-camp." He's fine.
