Need a laptop deal for XPS
Ok so a friend is buying a Dell XPS, because she wants its to look cute(I told her its a waste of money, but whatever). Basically I need help trying to find her a deal, right now I cant find any for the XPS series, only deal I can get is 600 off by calling Dell and requesting it. If anyone knows some online coupons or stuff like that, that would be great. Most likely she wants a dell, but suggestions for "cute and colored" laptops are welcomed as well. Is there any way to personalize laptops aftermarket? That would be really helpful too. I am trying to convince her to buy a cheap nice system, and do it aftermarket, but I need something simple, its a girl we are dealing with. Thanks guys.

Re: Need a laptop deal for XPS
also powernotebooks.com has decent prices on a huge range of laptops and newegg.com has somewhat cheap acer laptops.
the best deals are still the rebates at office max of compusa or whatever (last week they had a 17"/DVD-RW/80gb amd64 for $699). If sshe really wants colored laptops, alienware/falcon northwest/other super expensive boutique crap look better. |

some places sell full coverage sticker type things (at least they did), but those seemed like a true nightmare to work with. Unless you want to unscrew the laptop chasis, tape, primer, paint, and coat it yourself, I can't think of much you can do. PCs do have aftermarket lights/kits/cases, but not laptops that i know of, at least not to any large degree. |

Re: Need a laptop deal for XPS
Just get a used one off eBay and spraypaint a "cute" color.
Hey, I painted (actually I used automotive vinyl dye) a monitor blue to match the case on the PC I built. Just don't get paint in the holes or on anything electronic. It looks great. |

Re: Need a laptop deal for XPS
Greetings, ok here's the deal. I need advice in purchasing a new laptop. It is primarily for work, but do some pic stuff (stills w/photoshop, etc. not a gamer) as well. Need to be able to handle and store big files fast and easy
Naturally, I would love to save some $$$ on a FAST unit with a big screen , but I also want an easy deal, with not a lot of set up on my part. I would like to have some support that did not involve a call holding pattern in Sri Lanka. I would be easy prey for somebody to sell me stuff I do not need. I can do this over the web? I should go to best buy? Your help is appreciated!!

For what you need, look at the Dell Inspiron 1525 or 1720. Make sure you have at least 3GB of memory, upgrade to a Core 2 Duo, the HD Display, and the battery if you plan to use it unplugged for extended periods of time. The rest is pretty standard, straight forward stuff that you can pick and choose what you want to spend. For a grand, you can get a very good system that will last you several years.
