Bringing back an old memory
I hope this is not the direction the skins are headed but if you think back to the 2000 season we were fresh off of a 10-6 season with one playoff win and a loss as we were in 2005. The following year we brought in a bunch of free agents as we did this year and were projected to win the Super Bowl by many including the redskin faithful. Sadly we finished 8-8 that season b/c we had talent on both sides of the ball but we did not play as a team. I emphasize the word team b/c in the last 2 games even though it is preseason it appears the skins aren't playing as the team they should be. Hopefully were just fine tuning things a bit and will be productive next week against the Patriots. If it is not broke don't fix it. Did we fix what we needed to? I guess only time will tell but it's running out. Once you drop a few games its hard to get back in it. I just don't wanna be in the a little too late category this season especially after all the hype we had going in. Thoughts?

Re: Bringing back an old memory
Norv Turner was coaching that team. Joe Gibbs coaches this one. Enough said.

Re: Bringing back an old memory
The real issue here is whether the defense is coming together and last night was an anomaly or not. If the defense plays more like they did against Cincy's 1st team, we're going to be in good shape. If it allows big plays like it did against the Jets, we're in trouble.
If the D can keep the team in games and win a few like last year, this offense can win more games than it did last year, regardless of how disoriented they are. The fact is that it's a totally new system under Saunders and it's gonna take some time to get up to speed. Gregg Williams and his squad are absolutely going to make or break this year for us, IMO. |

Re: Bringing back an old memory
I don't see any correlation between 2000 and now.
Back then we overspent on over the hill, big name players, some of whom didn't really fill a need (Jeff George) other than to fill out the roster like a fantasy team. The past 3 years we've carefully selected players that are young and on the rise, and fill need positions. We also now look for other critical characteristics such as character and work ethic. |

Remember, we have to become a team before we can play as a team. With all the additions, we're learing to be a team. In these first two pre-season games we've had guys going in and out like turnstyles for only a few plays, and some who have only been here a couple days. In all honesty you can't expect things to run as smoothly as you'd like. A lot has been thrown at these guys in a short span of time and they have to sink or swim. |

Re: Bringing back an old memory
to me everybodys too worried about injuries, especially coaches, youve brought in a new off coordinator and new players on offense and we dont have a score to show for it from the starting offense, injuries are going to happen, you cant worry about it,I think Brunell and the rest of the starters should play the next game the full 4 qtrs and at least 2 qtrs of the game after that, the players need to get their timing down and learn this new offense before the season starts, our division is probably going to be the toughest div and we need to get our shit together,we go 5-6 again were done

Re: Bringing back an old memory
The starters will probably play the full first half next week, that's the norm for the 3rd preseason game.
But don't look for them to play very much at all in the 4th game. It would be insane to risk them at the last minute like that. |
