Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
Cowboys | Ware fined by league
Sat, 23 Sep 2006 08:23:41 -0700 Clarence E. Hill Jr., of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware has been fined $5,000 by the league for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Washington Redskins QB Mark Brunell Week 2. Ware attempted to ease up and was flagged for roughing the passer. He is planning to appeal the fine. I am all for protecting the QB, but I really did not think that hit warranted a fine. |

I can't believe that I am going to agree with soemthing that a cowboy fan says, but I didn't think it was too bad either. Ware better watch out or he's going to be on the same list that Sean Taylor is on somewhere in the ref's back pocket.

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
I'm surprised Taylor wasn't fined for one of his bogus penalties from week 1.

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
He shouldn't have been fined for that hit....horrible call by the league office.

They aren't kickers - who are quite vulnerable - who are only in the game for very short periods of time. Why don't they just put Orange jerseys on all QB's and be done with it...

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
Why don't we start fining guys for tackling anyone who has the ball?

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
Well, the hit deserved a flag, but IMO Ware had no intent at all for helmet to helmet. Accidents happen. So what made the NFL fine him, but not "what's his name" for his hit on Trent Green?

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
I don't like the fine and I really don't like the hair trigger the refs seem to have for any legit play Taylor makes.
That said, football at all levels really needs to make some very significant investments into helmet technology. The players are getting bigger, faster, stronger at all levels and are consequently hitting harder. The ability of the head to take those hits is not keeping pace.

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
the penalty was bogus and i guess the league has to justify it by the fine. lets put flags around the quarterbacks waste and be done with it

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
Yeah I agree that played didn't even deserved a flag less a fine
This protecting the QB crap it's getting ridiculous, You can hit High you can't hit low you can't touch the helmet, you can't lead with your head. I agree the investment a QB is specially to the NFL imagine a playoffs without Peyton, Brady etc.. but their substitutes because they are hurt we say well they're playing football it's part of the game but the see it as losing $$$$. Still I believe their should be gray areas in this rules more and more the QB are looking like Kickers or soccer players they barely get touch but they fall to the grown like they've been hit by a bulldozer just to draw the flag. If this continues in a few years will see QB going down and trainers bringing the miracle water that cures all injuries like it happens in soccer. it a contact sport so there must be contact. |

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
It deserved the flag but by no means a fine. To me a fine should come when there is serious neglect or obvious intent to harm.

Re: Demarcus Ware fined for hit on Brunnel
I agree with a penalty for no helmet to helmet, but no fine. It was not malicious.
