How bad is our defense?
Started this thread in anticipation of a loss.
How many punts did the Giants have? Zero until the 4th quarter. Its as though we have only two smart players on D - Taylor and Washington. The line sucks, the secondary sucks. Springs' absence is not an excuse for this pi$$ poor display. |

Re: How bad is our defense?
Our offense is flaky too. It sucks right about now.

Re: How bad is our defense?
Our D is bad right now. As in it is bad enough that we will not be able to win games consistently with the D like this. Williams needs to figure something out.

Re: How bad is our defense?
Some of our big dollar pick ups on Defense are killing us right now.
1) Andre Carter has been a huge waste salary cap space. I have held back to see what he can do before critizing him. This is week five and he has done nothing. Today he was burned for some big runs (sweeps) around his end. He is getting manhandled in the running game. He is currently not a full time starter. I always said since we got Carter we should platoon him, Renaldo Wynn on run downs and Carter on pass plays. Wynn is a great run stopping DE and coach Williams is not paying him enough. . 2) We over paid for Archuleta. Plain and simple. 3) Because we have so much cap space tied up on players that are not producing (Carter, Arch, Randle El and Lloyd) we had no cap space left to sign an elite CB and a coverage SS which what we most needed. |

Re: How bad is our defense?
this was what i was most afraid of.
even before pre-season, i was worried when i saw us shed so so many stalwart defensive backs and only get Archuleta in the off-season. i always said our defense hinged on 31 year old, nagging injury prone, Springs and that that wasn't a good position to be in.

Re: How bad is our defense?
our defense is so bad that my dead great-great-great-great grandma could cover burress better than the whole redskins secondary!
also how bad were dick stockton and that other guy, they seemed really bias toward the giants. terrible game all around! they were like afraid to put pressure on eli "silver spoon" manning. ihate the giants more than the cowboys now! not even kidding |

Re: How bad is our defense?
The defense was awful. We couldn't stop the run. We couldn't stop the pass. We couldn't hit the quarterback. We couldn't tackle the ball carriers. We couldn't stop them on 3rd down.
Carlos Rogers is shaping up to be nickel-back. Certainly wasn't worth the 9th overall pick when Merriman, Ware, etc. were on the board. Archuleta was overpaid. Our secondary is just flat out awful and our defensive line is as bad. These guys better turn things around fast. A 2-3 start can be overcome, but a 0-2 divisional record is a recipe for disaster, especially in this division. |

Re: How bad is our defense?
Check my previous posts. I am pleased(well not at the moment) that we are 2-3. Was my preseason prediction, 5 weeks, to get this offense rolling. Hehe...maybe a different outcome week 4, but i fully expected to lose to Dallas and G-men away...well maybe not G-men as they in disaray, and not score 3 points. Anyway, we suck in NY bottom line. Regroup, Tenn. is in trouble!!!! I believe we are in a great position right now. Yes i know, cellar, but home games are home games. We win our home games vs East and we on top. I'm just glad we have gotten ssomething going at all this year already with this complex Offense. hang in there guys. The show is about to START soon.

Re: How bad is our defense?
they converted every 3rd down they needed to, and it was infuriating. no pressure on the qb, and it looks like we are playing with no corners because there is never any coverage. what the fuk is going on? this inconsistancy in our team is driving me crazy

Re: How bad is our defense?
I know the offense was bad (attributable to poor offensive line play), but when you surrender 7-8 min long TD drives, and can't force a punt, its on the defense.
I'm not yet ready to throw in the towel for the season until the Dallas game. If we lose to Dallas, that's 0-3 in the division, and 0-4 in the conference, which sadly means no playoffs. The D has regressed every season since 2004. In 2004, we were exceptional. In 2005, we were good (and finished the season strong). In 2006, we have been plain bad. As well as Lemar Marshall has played for us, I think letting Pierce go was a big mistake. Think of what the linebacking corps would've been with Washington, Pierce and Marshall. A win against Tennessee at home, but this secondary will be eaten alive in Indy. 3-4 going into week 8 is not bad at all, but after that, we need to clean out everybody in the division to have a shot of making the playoffs. |

Re: How bad is our defense?
i honestly think GW's game plan wasn't too bad... i know everyone wants pressure all the time, but Manning is extremely good under pressure. i think the secondary would have been even more exposed today had the safeties and backers blitzed. the score would have been worse than it was.

Re: How bad is our defense?
Our defense interiorly is weaker, slower and undersized in anymatchup vs. OL.
There are so many discipline problems with the D- I am embarassed to be a supporter of the colors. As I have said before this Defense is Vaginal (our offense is impotent). Instead of adapting to our weakness' GWilliams would rather carry on as if we are fully intact and as ruthless and intimidating as ever. THAT IS THE MOST CRUCIAL ANALYSIS of WHY OUR PHILOSOPHY CONTINUES with such aggressiveness. This team needs and F'N should have known from day 1, "Springs is out" sorry we can't blitz and take chances in 1 on 1's. Why is that?, b/c we just brought in Wright, Fox, Doughty, Archuletta, Rumph and other average/below average talents who have to learn our style, language, and presence. They arent even better tacklers than Springs or Prioleua. Im just upset that they are putting a team and gameplan they call "competent and able" when it is "disgracing and self destructive" Why arent we switching to a 3-4 in more packages??? Let our LB cause disruption, DL isnt!, where is Rocky? I would like to see our LB even drop back into coverage. If this teams DL will not get to the QB on their own, then why are dismantling our coverage to make up for that?? It seems evident that we should force teams to run (our strength) and not send so much pressure-- It is taking us out of the game leaving responsibilities to guys like Wright/Rumph who need a Chaperone on every play. Sure leave the most unreliable guys back there to guard the 1st down or endzone. Unbelievable, this team is coaching itself out of games and away from progressingto being a consistent unit. The answer for next year has to be 3-4. I just dont understand why have an extra ineffective DT on the field (ehem.... Salavae ty)

Tackling today was enough to today to strip any hidden pride harbored in the defense to be vanished for the remaining of the year. I would feel better if the team issued a statement when reality hits that playoffs and beyond arent happening this year. Instead they lose and Fuck it up and let their actions do the talking. I am giving up, my Sundays are gonna be better spent not watching these games.
