yea hes only played for one year essentially. But its his last year of the contract and they dont want to lose him if he does well again I guess.

Yeah, he's making more than his favorite target: Steve Smith. Something kinda messed up there.
I don't think he's all that good of a QB anway. He was sooooo lucky to even get into the playoffs last year. There were several games last year when he 'brought them back'. He basically just threw the ball up and let his receivers go after it. Several of those balls should have been INTs. He's overhyped, I think. But, then again, he may prove me wrong this year.

I kept saying how "lucky" Del Homme was last year. However, he is the most consistantly lucky person I know. He's not a great QB, but he's definitely a lot better than I ever suspected. That contract is way too high though. I think it will be interesting to see how the Panthers do this year.

Don't you have to practice hard and study to be that lucky?
I can't believe that anyone could get their team to a SB on luck alone. |

Their offense didnt get them there, it was mostly their defense, IMO they had a decent offense, nothing overpowering. they had one game breaking reciever, and Davis who wont break many, but it was the suffocating defense that got them there. Delhomme proved to be that he is a winner though, very similar to Brady, with a little less skills.

Delhomme isn't a great QB, but the guy just makes plays when he has to. He's a winner in my book.

Delhomme just has that killer instinct that you can't develop. He knows what he needs to do on the field and his teammates respond to him in the huddle and that is one of the most important things in football. Maybe he doesn't have all of the tangibles of the star NFL quarterback, but IMO he makes up for that with the intangibles. Bottom line: money is used to buy results and I think that this contract will do just that

This is just the way football is now.... players get the huge contracts at any sign of some sort of potential. But the kicker is that these contracts aren't guaranteed anyway so they still have to perform at a high level. Of course, this opens the door to the old debate on whether any of these players are worth the kind of dough they are making these days in sports.
Although, imo Delhomme did very good last year and made the plays when he had to. |

I like the move by the Panthers.
Is $38 million for 6 years a ton of cash? Yes. Is Delhomme as accurate as Pennington or as strong-armed as Favre? No. But, the deal is not as crazy as it sounds. For one, the contract is VERY backloaded. Second, the signing bonus (the most important part of any deal) is a mere $6 million. Third, Delhomme is a very mature and poised individual. Fourth, he gets the job done when it counts most. So lets say that Jake is just a decent QB, but not worth a $7 million salary by year four of the deal? The Panthers can cut him and be out less than $3 million in dead money the next season. But I think he is better than just an average QB; not a Pro-Bowler, but certainly better than a lot of starting QBs out there. Oh, by the way, the 'Skins almost got Jake last offseason, but opted for Rob Johnson. |

12 million signing bonus. So it's about 4 million a season.

I actually couldn't remember where I read the 6 Million SB. Then I remembered that I read it on profootballtalk.com. As we all know that site is complete garbage. The info. reported on the site is poor, the "sources" suck (or are non-existent), and so one should NEVER rely on that site for info. Unfortunately, I didn't remember I read about Delhomme's deal on that site and so my post was totally off-base.
My apologies Warpathers. |

if its a 12 million dollar signgin bonus itd only be two million a year wouldnt it Cush?
And I guess signing Rob Johnson wasnt the anwser huh, I could have told Snyder that, why did we consider signing him in the first place. I know they iddnt want anyone to compete with Ramsey, but Rob Johnson?!?1
