Re: Iverson On His Way to Denver
i wish iverson would have stayed in Philly, and the g.m. billy king was traded. the problem in Philly wasn't iverson, it was the supporting cast around him. as for all the off court issues, i could really give a damn. iverson is a straight out baller

This is gonna make Denver more dangerous than they were. Too bad things didn't work out for Iverson in Philly.

So my buddy lost the argument, but Billy is a really nice gracious guy, and we all shake his hand and wish him luck. So the waitress comes over 5 minutes later and is like, Mr. King would like to buy you guys a round of drinks. Five more .35 cent Michelobes? That's okay, we say, and all order like Grey Gooses and Vodkas. It was about 40 bucks for our five drinks, which at Penn State is enough money to get drunk at the bar for at least a week straight. Anyway, Mr. King bought us a round of drinks just for losing a drunken argument about hats, so I think he's a great guy, and I will say that they got more for Iverson than I expected them to, so he deserves credit for that as well. |

Re: Iverson On His Way to Denver
iverson is the leagues leading scorer, and they basically got 2 stiffs for him. this was a lousy trade from the sixers viewpoint. all they did was free up cap space

Re: Iverson On His Way to Denver
Well they got two decent players and two first round picks. How were they going to do better than that? Yeah, you can say that Iverson is theoretically worth more, and maybe is, but in the real world who was going to offer more? You did okay Billy, you did okay.

Re: Iverson On His Way to Denver
Andre miller is a legit player, Joe smith is not. i wasn't arguing about what they got, just the fact that i think they could have surrounded iverson with better players, and won. not 30 something Chris Webber on bad knees.

Re: Iverson On His Way to Denver
Isn't it crazy how Joe Smith and Allen Iverson were back to back #1 draft picks, and now a decade later they're part of a trade with each other?Though Smith is clearly an afterthought here. His position isn't PF, it's "Money off the books after the season is over"
Sixers need to stay bad enough to stay in the Greg Oden sweepstakes.

Anyways, I don't think it's a bad deal for the Sixers. Andre Miller has led the league in Assists before, he's no stiff and is a good replacement at PG (won't be as good as Iverson obviously but he's probably the best PG that a team would give up). Joe Smith is a good rebounder and his contract expires this year so they can just cut him without a cap hit. They also get 2 lower first-round draft picks to go with the very high first-round pick of their own because they're so bad this year. That's 3 first-round picks in a VERY GOOD DRAFT. It's a great rebuilding move. Good deal for both teams...Denver needs SOMEONE to score while Anthony is suspended for almost 5 weeks. |
