MLB biggest concern on defense
After watching tonight's game I am thoroughly convinced that our main concern on defense is not DE,DT,CB but MLB, but don't get me wrong those aforementioned positions our huge concerns but if I had to pick our biggest it's definitely at MLB. Marshall simply cannot cut it at this position he is way to small to be playing MLB at 225lbs, he cannot get off blocks, and it's difficult for him to take on bigger backs one on one. I say we need to either draft a stud MLB (Patrick Willis, Buster Davis) or if we decide to use our pick on a diffrent position then we desperately need to find somebody in FA either Adalius Thomas or Lance Briggs. As far as our other LB's are concerned Marcus Washington is a mainstay and we sorely missed him tonight and Rocky looks like he is coming into his own and he looks like he is going to turn into a good draft pick for us with some work in the offseason.

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
Possibly, but hey why draft a MLB when we could get another WR

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
You hit it right on the head. More than a CB or any other position we need a MLB.
You watch - we bring in Nate Clements and ignore the LBs, we'll be in big trouble next year. |

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
A monster pass rusher would make every other player on the defense better but MLB is a huge hole.

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
It is a big concern, Ill give you that, but I think corner is a bigger problem. This game the run killed us, but the pass has been there all year long. The giants just suck at executing it...

Major League Baseball has something to do with our D?
Seriously though, I agree. I think the D as a whole is an issue.

I agree 100%. Our LBs can't get off blocks at all!

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
There are sooo many problems on D, it seems futile to try to pin it on a single position. I think most are just engaging in wishful thinking that this year was a fluke on D instead of a system failure.

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
The system is fine, it's the players who are in the system that just don't work anymore.
The biggest problem is that Cornelius Griffin isn't the player he was in '04 and just last year. Ditto for Salave'a. When you have someone wreaking havoc at the defensive tackle position, the linebackers look great. We need a D-tackle more than anything. And the draft is solid for linemen for the position we'll be drafting in. |

Has anyone seen this MLB from Cal? Bishop i think. Leads his conference in tackles and was incredible the other day.

I do believe, however, we are in need of upgrading our secondary.

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
I know it's crazy talk that I've spouted off before but what about moving Marcus to the middle and Rocky and LeMar to the outside?
(To get really radical move LeMar to safety)

Re: MLB biggest concern on defense
Secondary is certainly a problem, but the DBs had nothing to do with Tiki Barber skipping effortlessly through the D-line like he was on the Yellow Brick Road headed for Oz.
As I understand it, for the position we'll be drafting in (#3-#7 in the first round) defensive tackles are by far the better value. DB's are rated much lower in the first. |
