Mark Brunell booed

I'm starting more than threads than Kidwell! I have to make my year end quota!

It's sad what happened to Mark Brunell last night. Honestly, if I were at the game I'm not sure what I would have done. I think it's easy to sit back at home and say it was classless, although it most definitely was.

I imagine two things were going on in people's(is that a word) minds: People got caught up with what the masses were doing at the moment and decided to join in on the booing. Secondly, I think in the minds of people Mark Brunell is symbolic of what many 'think' is wrong with the Redskins this year. High priced, under achieving free agent. Perhaps he just represents it all in one person.

One thing's for sure no one get's praised or booed like a quarterback. It's going to always come back to the quarterback no matter what or no matter who he is. You could have a running back that stinks it up and a quarterback that stinks it up, the fans will blame the QB 99% of the time.

So while I think it was definitely directed at Brunell, I'm think there may have been a few more elements at play...of course, a few brews will always add fuel to the fire.

He's a convenient scapegoat. But all QBs on losing teams are, I'm sure Brunell has known that since he first decided to line up at center in pop warner. Unfortunately for Brunell, he didn't get the opposite feeling-being the convenient hero-when they were winning last year.

TOTALLY CLASSLESS. The boos should have been directed at the defense everytime they took the field.

That's interesting because not many praised him when we were winning, but he takes the blame for losing. It's just an interesting dynamic.

That coupled with the fact that they were getting destroyed. I think if I was there I probably would have considered it. However, the problem I have with it is, who were they supposed to go to? Would the fans rather have seen Todd Collins? I mean, that guy is garbage. Brunell was the better choice of the two, but I really wasn't happy seeing him going into the football game.

Re: Mark Brunell booed

What really bothered me was that I don't think people were worried about Campbell being seriously hurt-and not to get dramatic, but with a possible career ending injury if he snaps his neck on that hit-but instead they were just mad that it meant Brunell was back under center.

Exactly. And this is why I'm not sure it was all directed at Brunell. I'm not making any excuses or trying to over analyze this.

Fan Psychology 101: It's possible that many saw the Campbell injury and Brunell's entrance as an interuption or disruption to the continuance of the 'Jason Campbell era.' In their minds, were they really saying, no we don't want to go back to the old, let's keep marching forward to the kid. Even if Brunell comes in and lights it up, I think many people are done with that chapter of the Redskins.

Maybe some people thought it looked like kinda like when Ramsey went down...

Re: Mark Brunell booed

Yeah, booing Brunell was asinine. All he did was what he was called to do: Come in and back up JC when he is hurt. Though I advocated benching Brunell since Game 2, there was no reason at all to boo him. He did his best this season; it just wasn't good enough.

Re: Mark Brunell booed

I'm sure if you would have polled those same people before they booed Brunell and asked them if they would ever do such a thing, they probably would look at you like and idiot and declare how classless that is.

I think people do things they normally don't do when they get caught up. But it was most definitely unfair and classless.

I understand that take, I wasn't happy to see Brunell come in only because I didn't want to watch him play in the last game of the year and obviously Campbell is the future and more fun to watch at this point, but the guy didn't deserve to be booed.

I tell you what, Eli had better thank God they won last night. Because the press was just waiting to roll all over him this morning. (no pun intended)
