Shaq to the Heat?
So apparently if the Heat are willing to trade Lamar Odom, Brian Grant, and either Caron Butler or a no.1 pick they can have Shaq
If I'm the Heat I think I'd have to make that trade right? Grant is a fine player, but way overpaid and easily replaced for a cheaper price. Odom is a jack of all trades, master of none. I'd hold on to Butler and send the no. 1 pick. Shaq, Butler, and Dwyane Wade. That's not a bad trio. The problem is will Shaq's contract prevent them from getting a deep team. But as it is the Heat are sort of handcuffed by Grant and Eddie Jones' contracts. As a Wizards fan of course, I'm not so sure I want to see Shaq back in our division

He has to get out of L.A. I'll really laugh if Kobe goes elsewhere, but I think Kobe stays once Shaq is offically traded, approved, and signed, sealed, delivered.

looks like its gonna be butler, odom, and grant for shaq. I hate what buss is doing to the team, but atleast their getting something for him and getting him out of the west. Shaq is gonna play pissed off this year and will probably play another 4-5 years baring any major injury. This will help the heat out quite a bit cuz the east has no answers for Shaq and Kobe's attitude has torn apart something that was a pretty succesful partnership. If he signs elsewhere or ends up in jail this would absolutely destroy the lakers next year.

kobe is a selfish player, and he's been good enough to ignore his downside, but what he's done reminds me of when jordan was here with the wizards.... player/gms don't work. EVER. Jordan got a coach for him personally and kinda called the shots, came in and started yelling at the team for not being as good as what he was used to...
kobe has made sure to piss off and disagree with the coach and shaq enough to make them leave... posioning the well will come back to haunt him, just like it did to jordan... as soon as the winning stops, everything explodes |

From what I can gather, the Hollywood Faker's get Odom, Grant, Butler and a future #1, I personally think it's a steal for the Faker's, Shak is going to lose it fast, if you watched him at all this year, his first step isn't what it was, and his leaping ability is greatly diminished, and it's only going to go down from here, he is very quickly being turned into a player who will have to hit from the outside to survive, and we all no that ain't happening, he won't be able to finish on the inside like he once did, and his inabiltity to hit free throw's will make him a liability, I think miami gave up to much.

I'm not totally sold on the Lakers getting the good end of this deal. I like Odom. He's very versatile. It's just a matter of him staying off the weed. Brian Grant, bless his heart he sure tries. But he's playing out of position at center. The no. 1 pick will probably be a late pick, and there are some rumors that the Lakers are looking to trade Butler before the season starts.
As for the Heat, even at less than 100% Shaq should be able to dominate in the relatively weak East. The biggest concern will be what about the team's depth. Still waiting on Kobe

Looks like Kobe has decided to stay with the Lakers. And why not, they did everything he wanted them to do

Glad to see some of you talking about my Lakers!!
I am really sad to see Shaq leave. I thought he would have his jersey hanging on the wall at Staples center some day. But if I had to chose between Kobe our Shaq. Sure for the next 2 yrs I would take the "Big Fella" but Shaq's game is on the decline. I am sure going to Miami will give him all the motivation he needs to keep his big ass in shape over the off season. Just to prove that the Lakers blew it by trading him. But if he had stayed a Laker would he have found that same motivation?? I highly doubt it! Last year he waited untill the season started to have foot surgery!!! He said that the summers where his off time and he didn't want to be limping and rehabing his foot on his "off time". I am sorry but in my book if you make over 1 mill a year. You should not have an offseason!! Which is chicken feed compard to the 28.9 mill that Shaq made that year!! What I am trying to say is Shaq has been hurt for substantial parts of the last 3 yrs.. And alot of it has to do with him not taking care of him self during the off season.AKA careering to much wait on his feet!! So if your Jerry Buss do you sign Shaq who is 34 with 3 strong yrs left in him at best. Or take your chances on a 25 yr old that allready is one of the top 3 players in the league and will get even better. Well I'd take the 25 yr old because you need to look past next yr.

Skinsfan, I thought the issue was that the Lakers would not give him an extension, anyway...
I picked up the Butler rumor from an article I read the other day in the Orange County Register. I'll just post the quote, because the article is subscription only: Quote:

as for shaq, I thought the same thing until I heard it a couple times on espn that they had offered him that huge extension but he turned it down. and evidently in one of the first games of the season, during a game after dunking the ball and running up the court, shaq pointed and yelled towards Dr. Buss's booth "PAY ME" or something to that extent. This whole thing is confusing as crap to me but I see this is all the fault of Kobe and Shaq not willing to play second fiddle to the other. I know laker bashers r enjoying all of this but I doubt any of their teams have 3 rings in 5 years to show for any drama their teams might have, lol. |
