Insider info on Smoot from ESPN

Is anyone an Insider with ESPN? That have an article talking about what a great move it was for us to get Smoot. Thought it would be a good read, but I am not an insider. We all know it was a great move but nice to see others think so as well.

On a side note, I really like Springs and even though he has been hurt, I hope he stays with us and come to his senses and restructures with his favourite childhood team. Springs, Smoot and Rogers looks like money to me.

Re: Insider info on Smoot from ESPN

Don Banks strikes again. Here is what he had to say about Bly and Smoot. Wow he has a mad on for us.

7. The Lions trading Dre' Bly -- It seems to me that Bly quickly showed his true colors by complaining that he wanted Detroit to trade him to Washington rather than Denver, because the Redskins were willing to give him a new contract and the Broncos aren't. Show me a guy who'd rather play for the perennially losing Redskins than the perennially winning Broncos and I'll show you the type of player that Lions coach Rod Marinelli is trying to weed out of his locker room. At the very least, Detroit got a potential starter at offensive tackle (George Foster) and running back (Tatum Bell) in the Bly trade, which gives them lots of options at No. 2 in the draft.

Minnesota cut its losses with the clueless Fred Smoot.

Re: Insider info on Smoot from ESPN

You know, a lot of people will have negative opinions on Smoot coming back to D.C.

Personally I think the move could end up being the smartest and best offseason move for us.

First off, we didn't break the bank by signing Smooty. Secondly, he wanted to come back to D.C. and be a Redskin. Which leads me to the third thing, in my mind if a guy wants to play ball for your team, chances are he's going to do a pretty good job for you.

To me its obvious that the Smoot signing was a good move. Smoot played extremely well for us and that's something that shouldn't be overlooked. His bad years in Minnesota was because he was placed against top recievers constantly in Minnesota.
In other words he wasn't coached to his strengths, i like Smoot alot but he is not a shutdown corner. He needs to be covering the teams 2nd or 3rd wideout. Not the Marvin Harrisons, and Chad Johnsons. Gregg Williams knows how to get the best out of Smoot. Smoot could have commanded more money out on the market. Truth is we now have a very solid backfield. More capable of covering spread offenses. This is an excellent signing by the Skins!

As far as I'm concerned, there really are no perennial losers or winners. It's all about who wins the Super Bowl. If you step back and look at it, all the teams were losers except the Colts.

With parity each year in this league, you never know what team is going to be this year's Titans or 49ers, teams that show marked improvement upon their previous year. Hell, you never know who is going to be your 2005 Redskins. The Broncos always make the playoffs and always bow out before winning anything big.

Before someone spouts off that bullshit rhetoric, you might want to be a little more objective.

It's gotten to the point in today's game where it's difficult to determine whether a player want's to play for a particular team, or play for that team's money.

I think Smoot played his best when he was hungry. He came into the league with a chip on his shoulder and he may have lost that in Minnesota once he got paid. I think he'll play hungry again for us, he's getting a second chance to prove himself and he can put his struggles in Minnesota behind him.

When healthy, who is a better overall corner?

1) Smoot

2) Springs

I would have to say Shawn Springs when healthy! I totally agree Smoot is good, but I would not say he is your number one guy.

I have had about all i can take with Don Banks, he takes more shots at this organization than Peter King or Dr.Z. I cant take it anymore, everytime we do something he criticizes it. Hes never right about anything and still continues to get paid for his NFL expertise, what a joke that is. Everytime he writes something, no matter what its about, he takes a shot at Snyder, Gibbs or the Redskins. Hes as bad as Pete Prisco, if not worse, neither of them know football and both despise the Redskins, I hate both of them.

I couldnt agree more. Bly has like 10 years in the league and is looking for the Redskins to give him a comfortable retirement.

The Smoot signing was terrible. His best days are behind him and like someone else said he had Champ playing with him and covering the opposition's best WR. Smoot went to MN as THE MAN and ended up losing his job. Smoot was NFL trash blowing down the street and for some reason the Skins could not resist picking it up.

Springs is done in my opinion. I think hes only going to get worse and worse, his health is really going downhill and his skills are dimishing rapidly. We need to get rid of him as soon as possible before other teams that are offering draft picks for him figure this out also.

I think Springs is much better when healthy. Better in every phase of the game. Smoot isn't strong or fast enought to lock up Steve Smith like Sprints did last year, nearly shut him down.

To me, Skins most likely are going to part ways with Springs, which is a mistake in my mind.

Hence, all the Bly rumors to Denver.
