Re: weight gaining
I'm telling you I tried everything. When I was playing sports I was 6'1 185lbs and could not get up to 190. No matter how many days I was in the weight room, how much protein shake I drank, I never added any weight.
I'm 207lbs now and it's all thanks to doing nothing. Just sit around, eat potato chips. Oh oh, watch a lot of south park, the office, and hang out on the warpath for a while. It'll do the trick. It's probably a lot healthier to not get all bulked up. My roommate in college was all about taking whatever he could get his hands on, steroids, kreatine (or however u spell it) and protein. The guy got huge, but ended up getting stretch marks all over his body from it. It was nasty. The real girls like the out of shape guys anyways, so I don't know whats the point.

Re: weight gaining
I was about 5'10" and 165 lbs. at 23. I did a lot of lifting, was doing 700 push-ups a day, and ate like a madman. I couldn't do anything to get to my target weight of 185.
Now, at 27 (28 in May), I'm about 190. I think it's a matter of metabolism slowing down. Now, instead of trying to gain weight, I'm trying to lose 5 pounds and I have to watch what I eat (no more fast food 2 days in a row). In about a year, I expect you'll be in the same boat. |

Re: weight gaining
what helped me was breaking my eating down into 6 meals a day...lots of protein, complex carbs, and enough fats...if you have a fast metabolism, like me, try cutting out cardio all together...atleast until you get the muscle mass you desire...and there's nothing wrong with creatine, just make sure you cycle off...I was wary of supplements at first, but they work

Re: weight gaining
It started with ROTC (insert joke about ROTC dorks). We had a competition each year (for anyone who was in ROTC, it was the "Ranger Challenge") that included a bunch of physical stuff. We had our own gym and we'd just hang around and work out to prep for the competition. So, I got in really good shape.
After college, I worked at an incredibly boring job where I had my own office and no one ever came by. So, I decided to start doing push-ups to stay awake and keep in shape. I ended up doing push-ups in 20s, then 30s, then 40s, and eventually in 50s. The most I ever did in a day was 1,100 so I had stick legs and smallish biceps, but my triceps and chest were massive. Just so you don't think I'm bragging, let's just say that I am nowhere near that "level" anymore. I probably can do about 100 pushups (and not in a row), and after that, my arm would fall off. I've developed a mini-gut since I started law school and I'd be lucky if I could run a 40 in less than 8.9 seconds...on speed. |

Re: weight gaining
Focusing on the large muscle groups will help increase your muscle mass. The larger the muscle, the more weight you will gain. I went from 120lbs to 170 lbs in 4 years without paying any attention to diet or taking a single supplement or drinking some protein shake. Just simple weight training with the purpose of developing the muscles, special emphasis on the shoulders, upper chest, triceps and lats. 8 years later with minimal weight lifting, I still weigh 170 lbs at age 32.

I eat a lot but I eat healthy too, I haven't had fast food burgers since college (20-21) and gave up sodas pretty much. I've tried weight gainers, protein shakes with milk, cookies made with molasses, brown sugar and creatine instead of flour (probably a few hundred calories each, ha). Nothing. My dad was skinny too, but when he went in the Army at like age 20-21, he bulked up and went from 125 to about 165. Anyone have ANY suggestions? I'm in good shape and don't want to be a couch potato, but would love to gain 20 pounds, or even 10. |
