The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
The Washington Redskins' proposed trade for Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs will reach a secondary stage today when the Bears are expected to counter the Redskins' offer of the team's sixth overall pick in next month's draft in return for Chicago's 31st pick and Briggs.

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
I'd give them Lemar Marshall. I'm not giving up Golston or McIntosh, and I'm sure as hell am not giving them anymore picks. Hell I'm on the fence on this whole deal. This guy could be great for us and maybe it truly would be a great addition for us OR are we back to the same old thing of bringing a guy who doesn't fit with our system or locker room.
The whole locker room thing though is winning cures alot of things. Can we win? If we win guys are going to be happy, but in losing we create bad attitudes among players.

If they want Rocky or Golston i'd say screw it. Thats way too much. I'd be ok with parting ways with Marshall. They should of used Arch in this scenario a few weeks ago. Oh well. Another day in the life of a Redskins soap opera we call the offseason.

I think we're already a bit on the short end, throwing in a player would make this a horrible deal for us.

I really hope this deal doesn't get done....
At this point I don't even care who we draft at 6, as long as we keep the pick and use it. |

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
More sleepless nights for those who were upset about the original offer. Obviously Briggs is better than Marshall but if this trade went down as proposed it would represent yet another instance of jetisoning a core guy who has worked hard, put in his time, has struggled against the odds (low round draft pick, safety in college, etc.), and has proven successful (very much so in 2005). As I said, Briggs would be an upgrade, no doubt, but maybe I'm confused but I thought the very definition of 'core Redskins' were guys who fought hard, weren't superstars, and sacrificed for the team. Lemar Marshall has done all that, Lance Briggs has not. The whole 'core Redskins' rhethoric already rings hollow to basically everyone, it will be completely eviserated if this trade goes down. Giving up Rocky or Golston would make even less sense. This trade is stupid, the counter offer will give the Skins a chance to back out and save face...I'm thinking they won't take the opportunity. As JLC said in his blog, this thing stinks of Danny Snyder to the core...ownership driven all the way no matter what they say about Gibbs being the man at the Park.

What the hell are we thinking? This is just another case of overvaluing a player. This deal has Snyder circa 99 written all over it! It wasn't a good deal to start with, so we are throwing MORE in? Skrew that, let the Bears keep and work out their own problems!

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
I've changed my mind about the Briggs deal. We need to let McIntosh have a chance to play. He was held back I think by Lindsey. Players need to feel like they will be trusted with an opportunity, and McIntosh deserves that, rather than being relegated to backup status.
Now Chicago wants more. Well, my response is that that is a joke. They can trade with someone else. Whoops, they don't have anyone else willing to trade for him. Yet they want even more. Too bad. Let Chicago have Briggs, and his 10 game holdout. I am concerned the more I think about it how the Briggs situation came up. It doesn't have the feel of a Joe Gibbs managed situation. The agent is too involved, and there was word that Gibbs would be informed and consulted, as if he wasn't initiating this. Gibbs has to be in full control, or this franchise is in trouble. |

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
The Redskins should say thanks but no thanks. I warmed up to the proposed deal as last week went on, we'd be getting a very good player and still had a #1 pick but adding a player to the deal makes a bad deal worse. If we give up McIntosh or Marshall we need to ask for 2nd and 5th round picks as well. We're doing the Bears a favor, not the other way around.

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
I agree Matty--this makes a bad deal worse, IMO.
Hopefully, this will shut the talk down. But I'm pretty sure that Drew Rosenhaus is using his close relationship with the skins to work this into a frenzy. If no one shows interest in Briggs, he has no real leverage to get a new deal. My guess is Drew is driving the rumors and the skins are willing to see what happens, in the hope of getting a good deal on a proven player.

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
no, but maybe since they did us a favor with A.A., we kind of owe them one. but the trade isn't the greatest, as it is set up right now, for the skins

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
I think what the redskins initially offered was more than enough and maybe made sense in a way. They gain a proven player at an area that they seem to feel was a weakness last year by moving down from the top to the bottom of the draft. What the Bears get is something positive for something that is negatively affecting their team.
If the redskins have to give up another player (with the players mentioned in the article) or draft pick, it wouldn't benefit the redskins at all. The whole point of the trade would be - to help strengthen an area of weakness. The players that were listed in the scenario are at positions of perceived weakness for the redskins: linebacker and defensive tackle. Addition-by-subtraction is not the case in this situation. |

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
Meantime I'll bet Joe Gibbs is sitting back saying we've had no contact with the Bears. Hillarious.

Re: The latest on Briggs: Bears want more
I sit on this until we are on the clock. Everyone knows we are willing to make a move, if it's right. The deal needs to be a GIFT to do it now. Who can absolutely say who will be there at # 6?? It's not a.........gift deal. Wait, and let em' come to us
