Clayton: NFC big questions
Nothing new here, but at least it's something to talk about other than picking up Joe Schmoe lineman:
ESPN.com - NFL - Clayton: NFC big questions Washington Redskins Can another safety help the pass rush? Joe Gibbs thought LaRon Landry was the best defensive player in the draft, so he made him the sixth pick after repeated efforts to trade down. Now the Redskins have two of the most talented safeties in the league -- Landry and Sean Taylor, who was the fifth pick in the 2004 draft. The problem is the Redskins passed over a pass-rusher, Jamaal Anderson, to take Landry. The Redskins are calling all around to see if a veteran pass-rusher is available. The Redskins had only 19 sacks last season. Without any pressure on the quarterback, opponents had a 97.8 quarterback rating against them. Unless the Redskins can find a way to get a pass rush, Landy and Taylor might get a lot of opportunities to get tackles downfield. |

Re: Clayton: NFC big questions
I'm sure we are testing the waters some. I don't think Gibbs is being contradictory by saying he's fine w/the d line & looking for additional help at the same time. I think he's playing politics w/his existing troops to some degree, but he's always had confidence in vets & confidence that he could get more out of them.
I would honestly be surprised if we suddenly threw some big $ at somebody though. There are still a couple possibilities, but there's nobody that is real big time. One guy I've been wondering about is Jevon Kearse. I recall someone mentioning him a few months ago as a potential june 1 cut. He has a history w/GW at Tenn. At this point in his career he's probably best as a situational pass rusher, which is what we need most, assuming he can get most of his burst back. |

Re: Clayton: NFC big questions
There's no way Gibbs does not recognize the need for help in the d-line. and to ignore it, or pretend it does not exist is a mistake. Because there was no one at #6 they wanted to pay does not make the need go away.

Re: Clayton: NFC big questions
Joe says he's confident.....? until we sign our next player. Then HE IS REALLY confident! Just like I will be.

Re: Clayton: NFC big questions
If re really want a good d-lineman shouldn't we act like we are fine. Otherwise the player has leverage.

Re: Clayton: NFC big questions
That article calms my fears a little anyway. At least we KNOW we NEED a DE...if they want something, they usually get it.

Re: Clayton: NFC big questions
will smith is reportedly unhappy and he is a straight bad ass. i heard burgess in oakland was unhappy two, that guy has had 30 plus sacks in two years, most in the nfl. lavar arrington hahaha i only wish we had the ball too and he had the heart to come back, i am sorry but i love that fucker. seriously though how about trying to trade for julius peppers, who is in the final year of his contract i am pretty sure. we would most likely have to give up next years 1 and 2 and maybe 3 for him, is he worth it, i think so but that sounds like a madden trade. how about one of the bears defensive ends, trade for alex brown. and my last maybe trade comes from buffalo and his name is aaron schobal.

Seriously, this will NEVER happen. Kris Jenkins may be worth looking into, i've read that Carolina are shopping him and he would make a great addition to the d-line (Provided he could stay healthy)
