Re: Quitting Smoking
I quit a two pack a day habit on the patches. It wasn't great, but it did make it................bearable. GOOD LUCK, and hang in there, it will thin out for you. It's worth it
Is it not amazing that all the coughing and hacking, and typical smoker BS stops immediately

Re: Quitting Smoking
Never surrender! I'm staying in the Alamo with my coffee and cigarettes despite the onslaught of anti-smoking legislation and propaganda. Just kidding, sorta.
Seeing how I have not quit yet, I should probably refrain from offering advice to others about how to quit. Good luck though. |

Re: Quitting Smoking
I think the key to success is finding what works for you.
Personally I just quit cold turkey and that's what worked for me. I probably compensated by chewing more gum and drinking more coffee, but in the end I'll take those habits any day over smoking. Good luck! |

Re: Quitting Smoking
I quit for one year, then had to start again when I moved to Japan. So I guess my advice is don't move anywhere where premium brands are 2.75 a pack and sold in machines on every corner.

Re: Quitting Smoking
I know my Mom had been smoking for almost 40 years and decided it was time to quit. Got a prescription for Chantix, took it for less than the prescribed period, and hasn't had one since. That was 5 months ago.

Re: Quitting Smoking
I remember back in '96 or so you could get smokes at Wal-Mart for $2.10 a pack. A carton for less than $20! Those days are long gone that's for sure.

Re: Quitting Smoking
I used to pay for them with 2 bucks and get change back in TX when i started. I quit a year ago cold turkey from 2 packs/day. I had a girl quit with me and thaqt helped at first, but now I cant stand the smell. I miss the feeling from time to time, so I find myself really wanting to spark up a doobie now and then, but i refrain...
good luck!

Re: Quitting Smoking
BdBohnzie, my mom and sister both tried using pills like that, my sister quit for like 6 months with them and then went back to it, my mom the same deal. I havent tried them although i feel as if, if i were to quit for 6 months the urge to light up would be nearly gone, maybe ill pay a visit to the doc.

Re: Quitting Smoking
I think they tell you how to ween yourself off it in the movie Trainspotting:
Relinquishing junk. Stage one, preparation. For this you will need one room which you will not leave. Soothing music. Tomato soup, ten tins of. Mushroom soup, eight tins of, for consumption cold. Ice cream, vanilla, one large tub of. Magnesia, milk of, one bottle. Paracetamol, mouthwash, vitamins. Mineral water, Lucozade, pornography. One mattress. One bucket for urine, one for feces and one for vomitus. One television and one bottle of Valium, which I've already procured from my mother, who is, in her own domestic and socially acceptable way also a drug addict. And now I'm ready. All I need is one final hit to soothe the pain while the Valium takes effect. ...wait, maybe he was talking about heroin.

But for me the toughest thing about quitting was no longer being part of the smoking group at work. I was suddenly ostracized, and no longer invited to the cool parties. I felt as if I'd gotten a swastika tattooed on my forehead. |

I consider Pennsylvania my home state (my family has lived there since 95. I moved around a lot as a kid so that's the longest they've been anywhere). James Carville once said about Pennsylvania that it's just Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with West Virginia in between. |
