Re: Pizza for Pesos

This is his right as a business owner, of course. It's more of a marketing ploy than anything since I doubt there are large numbers of Hispanics who have pesos they otherwise wouldn't be able to use. There are loads of Hispanics where I live and they all seem to conduct their business in dollars.

I honestly can't understand why people would get so upset about this, or even go so far as to send him hate mail and death threats. Who cares if a business owner accepts Pesos? There's no legitimate reason to get upset.

LOL. Who the hell is sitting around thinking, "...hmmm...I wish I could exchange my pesos for pizza..."?

Re: Pizza for Pesos

I went to Bermuda a few years ago and they used their money and American money interchangeably. On a few occasions I would get change back and it would be made up of both types of money.
Granted, that's a tourist-heavy area, and that's why they accept our money, but I think they realized somewhere along the line that it was just a smart business decision.

As long as that pizza shop owner doesn't mind going through the hassle of exchanging the pesos himself there is no reason for him not to take them.

What is the conversion rate? Is it 1 for 1?

In Bermuda it's 1 to 1, which I found odd because it's a British territory. I guess since it's so close to the US that was just the easiest way to do it.

then I see no problem with this . All of us on this site have been given a Canadian penny from time to time. Nobody ever made a big stink over that. If the guy wants to accept them then that is his buisness.

Re: Pizza for Pesos

It's asinine to be this upset over one pizza chain, that happens to cater towards the Latino community, decides to take Pesos. The dollar is easily accepted all over the world, and no one puts up a fuss. And it's not like the pizza place is going to give you chance in Pesos.

If I were to frequent there, I'd so convert a few bucks to Pesos just to pay with them...

Not only that, it's not like it's going to increase immigration or anything. I think people are subconsciously thinking that. Because yeah, I'm SURE that there are Mexicans who were on the fence about coming over and NOW their favorite pizza joint takes pesos, here they come!

Well pesos aren't 1 to 1; it's $1 = 10.83p. But it still works because I really doubt the owner of the place is giving discounts to people using pesos, he just has to figure out what the pizzas will cost in dollars and in pesos. It's really no big deal at all.

Re: Pizza for Pesos

Even in Canada some stores accept American dollars and they make killing on the exchange rate. You would never want to use your USDs there.
