June 6, 1944-Take a Moment to Remember

This is for the AngrySSG's, BleedBurgundy's, Sammy Baugh Fan's, and all the others who have suited up to give me the freedom to tell them I disagree with them.

Thank you

What? No, no, no, not at all. That's not all what I meant.

What I meant was I have the right/freedom to voice my opinion freely and disagree vehemently (yet civily) with others. As others can with me.

And it's thanks especially to those who have served our country, such as AngrySSG, BleedBurgundy, and Sammy Baugh Fan that I have, can, and will do that.

Goodness, this was just supposed to be a thank you and reminder to commemorate this day. Not a personal op-ed

I was at Normandy on the 50th anniversary of D-Day back in 1994. That place commands such reverence and awe. I second SmootSmack's appreciation (even if his initials are "SS").

That's cool, Just wanted to make it clear I was merely talking about the right to disagree.

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our HomeFronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory!I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

That gave me chills.

God bless all those who have served, and all those who lost their lives.

Re: June 6, 1944-Take a Moment to Remember

I whole heartedly reiterate the thanks to those who have served, are serving, or plan to serve in the armed forces. As someone with multiple family members who have served or are serving currently, I have always taken great pride in saying I have relatives brave enough to have fought for their and my freedoms.
Anyone who hasn't watched it, Band of Brothers is a great series that gives a close & personal aspect of some of the brave souls who took up the call on D-Day and on. I just watched them all this past weekend and it gave me an even greater appreciation than before to those who fought and gave their lives and those who fought and watched men who became their families lose their lives during that hard fought campaign.

Re: June 6, 1944-Take a Moment to Remember

My wife's grandfather (now gone) was in Normandy and in the famous Battle of the Bulge.

My grandfather (also gone) was in the Army for WWII. My great grandfather served during WWI and WWII.

My father was also in Vietnam and has some amazing stories.

They're all heroes to me...as is every other soldier and serviceman, all the way up to my buddy who just finished up in Iraq and his brother who is now in Afghanistan.

Without the sacrifices of our brave men...we would not be living in the greatest nation in the world.

Thank you all.
