Any of you guys have a stereo or home theatre system worth bragging about? Or are you planning on uprading your current system and need advice on what to buy or who to buy it from. Even if you have a dream system you would like to put on paper and have others drool over. This is thread to do it!

Right now I have a Harman Kardon '330 reciever, Athena Technologies speakers (AF-1s mains, C1 center, and SB-1 surrounds). Speaker cables from AudioQuest (Type 4). Monster interconnects, Tributaries video, and Analysis Plus optical cables. I'm planning on upgrading my Pioneer '434 DVD player for possibly one from Cambridge Audio or even the Philips '963 before it's discontinued. Any recommedations for a reliable high-performance player? Any one own a remote from Harmony?

My dream system would consist of separates of course. Aragon or Parasound amps and preamps/processors. Spekers from Snell or Hales. A sub from HSU Research or SVS.

get massive surge protection, the kind that will actually melt down in case of a lightning strike to protect your gear. For speakers, i'm a fan of the powered studio monitors that mackie makes... http://www.mackie.com/products/studi...ors/index.html

for main systems, it depends how much you want to spend, there are some 20,000$ pieces that upsample everything to 192khz and pump it out 96khz sampling rate to each channel... those speakers weren't cheap either...

after the mackie type price range, it just seems to get so insanely expensive for improvement (cause of lack of mass production) that I don't really follow it closely as i'll never be buying it... if you want true 3d sound for the entire room (versus 3d sound for one pinpoint spot in the room), you'll need about 300-400 speakers, and 15k$ to license the tech

That speaker brand doesn't ring a bell. I did check out the website though. It's obvious they are making quality products. I've always thought that speaker measurements in a lab meant nothing if the speaker didn't sound good outside of it.

Oh yes, I do have a Panamax 1000 surge protector.

Hey if anyone has any vintage stereo equipment that they love and still use tell us about it. I've owed a pair of Fisher floorstanding speakers (circa 1985) that I'll never forget. I also miss my Sound Dynamics RTS-3s.

mackie are really huge, though more for live music (very popular mixing boards, PA speakers, and high quality monitors for recording studios). I can attest that the HR824s are just about the best thing i've heard. There's absolutely no eq and you can hear all sorts of breathes and other sounds from CDs that you'd never imagine on normal speakers... of course they costs too much for me, but a friend of mine has a matched pair.

most of the stuff i work with is live sound... there are basically only 4 speaker manufacturers in the world (who make the actual drivers), so most companies just make the boxes to hold them. For amps i'd always go with a crown, or maybe a qsc to save a few bucks, but again, these things are LOUD and not really meant for home theatre (though they do have very low THD and can take a fall from 50 feet onto concrete with no ill effects).
