Thank you for not signing Dockery!

washingtonpost.com

It looks like we may have a low cost replacement. You have to love a 24 year old 350 pounder out of the Big 10 who can play both guard positions.

It is too bad the front office did not approach the offseason like this every year.

In my opinion, the O-line may be the deepest unit on the team (secondary is right there too).

The only question mark that I see on the team is the D-line. However, if Griffin stays healthy and the "second half Carter" is the true Carter, we are good to go.

I am getting excited!

Early yet, but it's nice to hear that he's showing well. We know Buges can coach em up--let's hope it's more than just a camp thing.

No doubt at all that we couldn't match Dock's offer--but letting folks go is something we've done before. It's keeping talent and drafting and signing the right guys that's been a problem. (SIGN COOLEY NOW!)

You may have made a GREAT prediction SS. I've liked this guy since we signed him, just didn't think he could beat out Wade. But it sounds to me like Whitticker has been the man thus far. And Bugel wouldn't be slurping him to this extent if he didn't see something special. I love that he's only 24. And all I hear from Wade in this article are excuses, excuses. At the very least we'll have a nice competition on our hands come training camp. And that always pushes BOTH guys to a higher level. Good stuff here.

Well, it's still very early as JW points out. I think in the end Wade starts, but he has a bit more of a learning curve at Guard than Will does

First of all I'm glad Dock is gone, he was average, but that's it.

Secondly, sounds like old Buges has a man crush on this kid. I don't like him, I LOVE him....what's it your son buges?

Sounds good I'm glad we might have something in this kid, him and wade can fight it out, may the best man win.

Re: Thank you for not signing Dockery!

I'll believe Whittaker when I see him in a game. This is a guy who got cut from GB when they were desparate for linemen.

I hope it's just a case of needing time to develop, but Buges has been wrong b4.

With that said, his bio looked a lot like dockery - big slow road grader types.

Cooley should get paid. I'm not suggesting a $50M contract, but he should definitely have a salary among the top 5-10 TEs in the league. And apparently that is a priority in the FO right now. Hopefully it happens soon.

Re: Thank you for not signing Dockery!

Guys, don't beat up on Dock too bad. This guy when he came in as a virtual unknown, turned out to be a very solid player. I think it was Spurriers' last, and Gibbs's first season back when Dock would have us beating our heads with some stupid penalties. But, in 05 and 06 he cleaned that junk up. And let us not forget that HUGE heads-up fumble recovery in philly that kept that drive alive, and helped propel us in the playoffs. I can remember that ball coming out, and for what seemed to be an eternity, (while I said to the t.v. "someone just fall on it!") Dock out of know where rushes to recover the loose ball just ahead of an on-coming eagle. I've got nothing but respect for that man. Thanks Dock for the memories, and all that you did for our team. Goodluck buddy!

Re: Thank you for not signing Dockery!

Dockery was a 3rd round pick, I would not label him as an unknown. Dockery played at a top football school (U of Texas) and was a well known player coming out of school.
He was however a big dissapointment and underacheiver as a Redskin until 05 an 06. Many have said he greatly improved his play and got into good shape only because his contract was coming up. That it was risking giving him a huge contract like Buffalo did because he could revert back to being an average player. He did not deserve Steve Hutchinson type money. The Bills will cut him in a few years because.

Over Wade? I didn't think Wade was a good fit at G but backing up OTs Samuels and Jansen is a key role.

Re: Thank you for not signing Dockery!

If he ends up being as solid as they say then we are instantly better thqan last year. Wade can play either tackle spot adequately and seems to be decent enough at guard so an injury anywhere on the line and we have a solid backup to go in. At tackle just mvoe Wade over and Whit in and at guard just pop Whit in. Who is our backup center? Fabini?
