Player's Weight
Boys,
I was just browsing through the Redskins roster on redskins.com and it looks like they keep player height and weight data up to date. Three things stood out to me. First Sean taylor at 212. This has already been discussed, he's dropped a lot of weight to be faster and a better ball hawk at the free safety position. Second Clinton Portis at 223. Thats a lot heavier than what I was expecting. I think Portis is best at about 210 to 215 that way he is explosive but also hasthe power and pass protection strength that he does so well. Third and most concerning Jon Jansen 297. I'm sure lots of people like myself have noticed a big dropoff in Jansens play. I think this number best describes the issue. He was lost his power. I don't know if it's because he can't lift weights with his injured thumbs or what. But Jansen playing RT should be at least 15 pounds heavier. Discuss further! |

Re: Player's Weight
First time I've noticed those weights. All the O-lineman look to be hovering around 300-310. And then you've got Will Whit clocking close to 360!

Re: Player's Weight
Jansen is all about technique, not power. the thumbs could be hindering that. none of this is anything to get too worked up about

Re: Player's Weight
Taylor is going to be a true free safety this year so he's obviously focusing on coverage vs. run support. Losing the weight should only make him faster which is scary.

Re: Player's Weight
Good thread for a dull time in the offseason. Talk about attention to details!
Jansen seemed to always play about 300 -305, maybe 310. This does seem a little light for him, but I think it sounds encouraging. It could go either way, he may have lost weight cause he's not maintaining muscle mass & is out of shape, or he might be fit & has slimmed down to get as quick as he can. DEs are always lighter the OT's so he'll have no problems matching up in the run blocking. He's slower w/age as all are, so it will help him if he's a little lighter. ST's weight says to me that maybe he'd gotten a little fat last year & that affected his play in coverage. Good news that he's lost it. He's got to stop thinking he's a linebacker. Portis is the one that concerns me. He may be getting fat due to his recovery limiting his activity. He could be slow to get into shape. Good thing Betts is signed. |

Re: Player's Weight
Who knows when they even update these things. Depending on what site you check you can find a pretty wide range of listed weights for these guys. I wouldn't get too excited over anything.

Re: Player's Weight
Exactly. It's possible that Taylor was heavier than what was listed last season.

Jansen does not need to be 320lbs to be effective. His current weight is just fine. Denver never has big guys on their line and they do just fine. CP may be 223 right now but by the 1st game he'll be around 210lbs. These guys will loose weight right away during camp. ST at 212 is going to be scary. He is going to be faster and ballhawking all over the field. This should hopefully help him in coverage. |
