Marcus Washington really impressed me
We all know that Portis, Coles, and Arrington are three great players. However, a guy who really got my attention last Saturday at camp was Marcus Washington.
Marcus Washington, who replaces Jessie Armstead and not Jeremiah Trotter (as the WP reported) as our 2nd starting outside linebacker, is so much faster than I thought he would be. I don't know what his 40-time his, but he is quick AND big. I completely agree with the WP's article that he should be a monster this year. Based on the little that I have seen of him, he has all the makings of a pro-bowler. I would expect to see 8-12 sacks out of him this year. I really wish people could have seen him in person. I totally believe coach Williams who said that Marcus was "wreaking havoc" in practices. |

Well this is a pleasent surprise. I remember one websight saying when you signed washington that he was one of the most underrated free agents and could be a major score.

I completely agree. This guy is a beast, and I love the fact that we can finally see LaVar at his natural position as well.

I also agree. I saw him on Saturday and he is big. I expect him to have a great year. Out lb core this year might be one of the best in the NFL this year......and no one is expecting that.

i thought it was a great signing, and being from indy, where he wouldn't get noticed much outside the division, he may turn out to be a bargain. Furthermore, he has been to the playoffs a number of times.

I also agree. Wash will have a great year, at least partially because everyone will be looking out for Lavar. Having someone close to LA's ability on the other side is only going to make both of them perform better. I expect close to 10 sacks each....plus maybe a couple INT's between them. And Barrow seems to be impressing somewhat with his quickness in the middle. I can't wait for the season!
One question though: For the secondary, Smoot, Taylor, and others - even Jimoh - have been mentioned by Joe C, and the Post, etc., but I haven't read anything about Springs. Has he been involved at all??? I guess he hasn't really stood out, or done anything horrible, but I was just wondering.... |

As far as Washington goes, the truly amazing thing about this guy is his coverage ability. If you ask any of the other players, the one thing they always comment on is his ability to drop back and stick to receivers like glue. He has amazing speed and agility for a man of his size. This kid is going to be something special, just watch.

The way Washington was flying around the field I kept thinking it was LaVar. They're going to be a terror together this year. They just might help us overcome our shortcomings at DE with their pass rushing abilities.

I love the sound of that! Having 2 outside LB's with Lavar's speed is very encouraging! Which do you think will have more sacks this year, Lavar or Marcus?

There is definately good cause for everyone to be excited about Washington, but he's definately not the next LaVar. Let's just say he has the tools to be a top notch linebacker (Madden rating of 93 within the next two seasons ).

Some of you may know how critical I have been about Gibbs' decision not to get some more D-lineman. Perhaps I may eat crow; Washington certainly allieviated some of my fears about the lack of a pass rush.
