Dan Marino On Sub-Skins

On "Inside the NFL" , they had a long piece about the '87 strike skins who beat Dallas on MNF.

As most of you know, we had 100% replacement players and Dallas had Danny ("No Danny, No!") White, Tony Dorsett, Ed Too-tall Jones, etc. on the field.

Charlie talked about the speech Joe Gibbs gave before hand to the guys, who promptly beat America's Team and completed a 4-0 stand.

Asked what he thought about what the replacement team accomplished, Dan Marino said the Replacemenet players "Didn't do a thing. All they did was take game checks away from NFL players. Sure A few stars crossed the line but that was it."

Gimme a break, Mr. I-Never-won-the-big game.

There were two future hall of famers on that field, and our coaching beat Dallas.

Joe Gibbs won more with less than you ever did.

Fudgeman (Marino) was wearing some pretty cute shorts in those pictures. I'm sure he was/is loved in Dupont Circle and here in San Francisco on Castro Street. What a PACKER!!

marino has what credibilty? the man always had a million yards passing, but could never make the big throws when they counted. that win over dallas has to go down as one of the best coaching jobs, ever. but wasnt it in 1982?

Huh? Dan Marino?

He of the 61361 career passing yards couldn't make the throws when it counted? Pretty sure every one of those yards "counted". Every one of them helped his team! How can you say that he couldn't make the big throws? He made all the throws!

But yeah, as far as his analyst credibility, that argument is neither here nor there.

Re: Dan Marino On Su-Skins

As much as I respect Marino as a player, still consider him the greatest QB of all-time, I lost a little respect for him as a person. Come on Marino, these guys got to experience for three weeks what you got to experience for many years, and they played there hearts out. That was real football, no overpaid whiners, just hard playing grown ups who got to be kids again. The fact that they beat the Cowboys with almost all there regulars back should show just how amazing Joe Gibbs is as a head coach. Dan Marino was so disgusted by these guys, he still holds a grudge til' this day, you could see it on his face, its absurd, grow up already, football has given Marino a life many dream of and he still whines and cries. He gets upset when his records are passed (no pun intended), yet could never win a superbowl, maybe he should complain about that, how he choked in the big game, anybody remember the 62-7 butt whipping Jax and our very own Mark Brunell put on him and his dolphins? I found that episode very moving, amazing what those guys accomplished, kudos to you Sub-Skins, never will I refer to you as Scabs.

Could mean BIG throws in Superbowls, cuz he never made it to the Superbowl.

throws in the crunch that makes a team a winning team. I'm all about the wins, something Marino could never be bothered with

When talking about the replacement players Joe G Fielded that Beat Daaaaaanyyy White, Tom Landry, Ed Too Tall Jones, etc., Marino said

"They didn't do anything. All they did was take a game check from NFL Players."

Later they showed him wear a pink polo and plum smuggler shorts while walking a picket line.

Even Lt Dangle wouldn't have worn that outfit.

J-Dawg

PS In 1983, they didn't play any games during the strike [My daughter has on her wall framed 4, un separated tickets to each of the cancelled games].

in 1987 the NFL decided games would be played (the owners had to give the fans back the tix prices since the games were cancelled in 1983), and the results would count towards the playoffs.

Miami averaged nine and a half wins a season while Dan Marino was rostered. Roughly identical to the Packers' during Favre's career.

Don't stick to a ridiculous position.
