What to do with Carlos Rogers????
I know its his 3rd season, and he's looked "ok" this year, although that depends on who you ask...BUT do you think we'll keep this experiment going or look to draft or free agency next year???
I'm asking because this guy is, at best, a #2 corner. How much longer can we hang on to this flop of a draft pick when their are other good corner available (FA or draft). |

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
I disagree,
I think Rogers can be a #1 corner -- he has played very well this year -- besides that missed tackle against GB. He has a pick 6, some pass deflections, he committed pass interference twice, but he was being aggressive on those plays, which is okay. Not a great #1 corner, but a capable one.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
When Shawn Springs retires (which I'm gonna say will be within the next 2-3 years), Carlos Rogers will end up our #1 which gives him plenty of time to continue to get better. Granted he's no Champ Bailey but it'd be pretty dumb to try to look to draft something better now.

he's looked pretty "ok" to me, definately wouldn't feel comfortable with a carlos rogers vs. chad johnson, torry holt, lee evans, etc

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
THis is a ridiculous thread. He's missed two tackles this year (though I'd say he was pretty exhausted against the Gints when he played almost the entire second half). Other than that he's been very solid. Is he Champ Bailey? No, but who else is? He's better than anyone on probably 15 other teams and I have no problem with Carlos starting. BTW, wouldn't everyone agree they'd rather have Carlos over Pacman or Rolle who were both picked ahead of him?

If you don't agree with someone please explain why or don't bother replying.
I don't think rogers is a flop but I have been very critical of him. He has exceptional quickness and timing. He could be a #1 corner if he had his head on straight. Right now, he is our #2. That article about him last year where springs pretty much said he is unwilling to listen to player and coaches still bothers me. |

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Carlos has been playing very well. He hasn't shown anything that would have me believe that he has what it takes to be elite, but he is going to end up being a very good corner and very good cornerbacks don't grow on trees.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Carlos has been playing better than all of our corners IMO. he looks like a 1st round pick. Sure he's not getting 6 or 7 picks a season but come on, he'll grow by the time he needs to become a #1 corner.
So far, he is having his best year. He hasn't dropped picks or missed many tackles. If anything, he has been a soild tackler. Why would you start this thread???? |

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
every team in the NFL would take CR. He may be a #2 CB but he would be one of the top #2 CBs. The bigger question is what to do when he is up for free agency. CBs make bundles and I don't know if he'll be worth whatever contract he gets.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Too many vague statements here... "he's pretty good" or "he's not a flop." Come on now. Look at his technique. Rogers is one of the more aggressive corners in the league - look how he flies up to flatten receivers on lateral passes. His initial aggressiveness also bites the d in the ass when he hesitates a bit like in the NY game covering Plaxico.
And that gets to the biggest problem w/ Rogers and why he'll probably NEVER be a #1 corner: Rogers rarely has an eye for the ball and his receiver. His pick happened because he was standing back far enough to see QB and receiver (and he was in Kitna's blind spot). But when Rogers is defending a pass he almost always watches the receiver, which means he'll have relatively few picks over the span of his career and will allow some catches that should have been batted away. This is basically the first thing guys who have been around the league forever judge corners on. You'll see the very best corners watch the ball and "sense" the receiver nearby w/o getting called for PI. Watching the ball yields better pass defense and more INTs. It's pretty simple. |
