The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud

Instead of following the Prozac crowd who only wishes to point out the "mistakes" of today's game, let's look at the positives.

1. Clinton Portis rushed for over 130 yards today. He's definitely back on track and this is a good sign for our offense if Portis is running like he has the past two weeks.
2. Jason Campbell - should've had four TD passes today, but three TD passes and appeared to really get on a roll today. The guy is going to be a real solid QB in this league. I think he only gets better from here on out.
3. The offense has been opened up. Nobody should complain about our offense being too conservative today. The offense was attacking the Eagles defense and appeared to be unstoppable.
4. Randall Godfrey - had a really good game and was in position for two INTs.
5. Shawn Springs - Continues to prove that he's our #1 CB. A definite shut down corner for us. I hope he has a few more good years left.
6. Our offensive line - it's starting to open holes for our running backs which is in turn allowing us to open our offense up for a balanced passing attack.
7. MacCardell - In year 16, he's still a dependable WR that can step in and make plays for us when our other receivers are out. Even though we might have lost him for the rest of the season, James Thrash has been another solid guy for us to turn to.

Through all the many injuries we've had to solid veteran players this year and for us to still be above .500 is a big accomplishment. I believe this team is getting closer to being the team we want to see Sunday in and Sunday out. This loss sucked big time today, but I guarantee we beat a team this season that we're not supposed to beat and that will balance everything out.

I was impressed w/ JC today. His first 3td game i believe. We're starting to see improvement througth the course of this season. We all wanted to see them start to give him more opportunities and he made the most of them today.

CP was impressive too along w/ the Oline.

We just can't get out of our own way sometimes...

Many, many positives today from the offense, I'll agree.

I just can't believe we finally got the offense going and the defense let us down with penalties and big plays.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud

im impressed with jc and the o line and portis, but I'm so f'ing frustrated that we either have a great defense, or a good offense for the last several years... even during our playoff run... we had a great d and no o... and we cant field a team that plays a full four quarters...

we shouldn't have given up over 30 at home vs. the eagles... i just don't get it... its hard to keep trying to look on the bright side, when every time a bright side shows up the dark side wins over everyone else on the damn team, and we get the same old mediocre result.

theres alot of wasted talent and efforts on this team year in and year out and its very frustrating...

keep the kool-aid this week fellas... I need a fucking beer.

I agree, it is frustrating when it seems we can't have great football on both sides of the ball at the same time. I was very frustrated with the defense today.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud

JC calling plays in the no-huddle. (Not the last series after philly took the lead, but during the rest of the game...) That offense looked better than the one Al-Joe was calling. And, not surprisingly, Al-Joe took back over in the red zone.

Today was a step forward for JC.

Agree about good O-line play. And CP is back--nice to see us run AND pass pretty well.

Thrash. Great game. Shame about the injury. Now those who don't like James can have their wish and we'll see more Lloyd...

Just another day in the life of a Redskins fan.

I don't know if I want to start another thread about this, but what kills me EVERY single week is the inconsistency. If it's not the offense playing like shit, the defense plays like shit. If the defense is holding it down, the offense can't do anything. Then there are the injuries. Every week another one goes down, what the hell are we supposed to do? This isn't a knee-jerk reaction, but honestly I'm fully expecting to get blown-out next week.

And say we don't, it'll be just ANOTHER reason to get my hopes up this season. I'm not saying we're a crappy team and I do know that injuries are part of the game, but what other team has so many injuries at so many key positions? But of course, we HAD to give up a ridiculous amount of points in the fourth quarter. What Redskins game this year would be without THAT?

Has anyone else noticed the trend the past eight weeks? Win, loss, win, loss, win, loss, win, loss. At least the Cowboys will give us some kind of consistency where we lose two weeks in a row.

Goddamit, this team frustrates me so much. I try to be objective and look at things outside of a fan's perspective but this type of shit makes it so hard.

On a happier note, at least we aren't Saints fans today...

Yeah, the offense did everything that most of these fans have been asking for it to do all season long, but there is no mention of that whatsoever.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud

I REALLY liked what I saw from the offense today....great rushing AND great passing! Why has that been so hard??? The only complaint from me is obviously the last red zone trip....6 tries and we can't get it in from the 9? Come on fellas...we get that TD and the games pretty much over.

And I'm REALLY hoping that the horrible defense we saw today was mainly a result of those injuries...I hope, I hope, I hope.....

Here's a silver lining, Campbell's first quarter was waaaayyy better than Peyton Manning's is right now.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud

Want the biggest silver lining? The Giants (who we still play again) and the Lions (who we beat) both lost. Realistically, we are fighting with these teams for a Wildcard spot. And they have 2 of the 5 toughest schedules over the remaining 7 weeks. I know anything can happen, but Cowboys and Packers are divsion winners and the West and South divisions will probably finish 7-9 or worse. Winning 4 of 7 will probably earn a berth and then we'll face Packers or Cowboys.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud

Don't forget we're still right there in the playoff picture. Only trailing Detroit, and New York by one game for the wildcard spot. The way I look at it the NFC East is out of reach, and we need to just focus on getting a wildcard spot which is still very possible.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud

Honestly, I will be happy to see this team finish at 10-6 even if 10-6 isn't enough to get us in the playoffs. I will be disappointed for us not to make the playoffs, but considering all the injuries this team has been racking up, us finishing above .500 will be a big turnaround from a year ago.
