Suisham Missed Field Goal
I haven't been online since last week but so this material might be a little dated but I was wondering since we lost by 5 if Suisham doesn't miss that first field goal do we win in the 4th quarter by one? Jason doesn't have to force the pass that was picked we were clearly in field goal range to win. We could have pounded the rock to run down the clock with Portis. I was just wondering what your thoughts were?

Re: Suisham Missed Field Goal
Why do you think Dallas release Suisham in the first place? Inconsistency.

Re: Suisham Missed Field Goal
dude, have you ever seen u so happy after a loss, let alone a loss to Dallas that we coulda won? Write down things you may want to say before you type them, we are proud of our team, and their accomplishment.

So i take it then you will be releasing Folk then at the end of the season? It baffles me as to why a Dallas fan of all teams would tell Redskins fans that they released a kicker because of inconsistency when Dallas has been through kickers just as much as we have. Suisham has kicked game winners for us this year, has a good average and is doing just fine. He missed the kick againsed Dallas early in the game so the what if's are ridiculous to even mention. I also saw Suisham hit a returner that was running up the sideline and i was a little nervous he could take it to the house on us. The guy is doing just fine, our kickers and special teams should be the last areas to be looked at on the field right now. |

Re: Suisham Missed Field Goal
Nicholas Folk 15-17, Long 53, 1-2 from 50+
Shaun Suisham 14-17, Long 47, no attempts from 50+ Is Folk an upgrade? Statsitcally, it looks like that's the case. However, calling out Suisham when Folk's on your roster is a lot like making fun of a Dodge Stratus when you drive a Ford Focus. Neither player is a "weapon" - they are reliable, good guys who don't require a ton of maintenance. Also, Suisham is Canadian, so I think we might get tax credits for his roster spot.

The 2 misses that folk has were his first and ONLY 2 misses in the NFL EVER. Since being drafted he has hit every single field goal in training camp, preseason and regular season. One of those 2 missed kicks was blocked due to a missed blocking assignment up front. And for a rookie to hit two consecutive 53 yard field goals, on the road, with the game on the line, with a national TV audience (MNF @ Buffalo and Juron called that time out) is pretty encouraging. Now Suisham, on the other hand, was never able to do that in Dallas, maybe he is just a better fit in DC. But when in Dallas, Suisham had Parcells watching his every kick and he was "uncomfortable" with Parcells to put it lightly. But in Suishams defense, Parcells "style" of football relied heavily on the kicker. Parcells vision of football is staunch defense, and, always play offense and defense on the oppositions side of the 50. And win the game, if needed, with field goals. There are very few blowout wins on Parcells resume' in Dallas. Now with a juggernaut offense in Dallas that puts up points, well that takes a lot of pressure off of the kicker when your team already has a 14 point lead, and you need a field goal. So Suisham and Folk are in different situations really. |

two things that give me concern about shazaam: 1) he needs to kick the ball farther than the the 10 yard line on kickoffs. for an nfl kicker that is inexcusable. he started the season off well but now almost every kickoff lands on the 10. we need the occasional touchback. 2) he is very inconsistent from 50 yards and out. i thought this thread was going to talk about why coach gibbs thought he could even make a 51 yarder. he misses it like we knew he would and dallas gets great field position. im not sure if it was last year or the year before when we carried an extra kicker just for kickoffs and coach gibbs would go for it on 4th n short instead of lining up for a 50 + field goal attempt. he should employ that same tactit again in my opinion. go skins! |

Re: Suisham Missed Field Goal
Basically...it would have been nice if Shazam had made that kick...yeah theoretically we would have been down by 2 instead of 5 and we could have gotten a field goal to win late....then again Joe could have gotten comfortable with the field goals and took to playing conservatively and could have hurt us in the end...but yeah I dig what ur saying about game strategy....I would have perferred that we go for it there instead of trying a 50 yrd field goal....if u gonna give up....punt......but giving them the ball at the 50...puts our D in a bad spot....the bad thing is on that drive we had moved the ball from like the 4 yrd line...great drive to come away with no points...

I doubt too many people would argue that Vinaterri is a top alltime clutch kicker and he missed a 23 yarder to beat Chargers. Kickers miss sometimes.
