World Corruption Index
This year's corruption index is out and guess who is #3? If you said Iraq give yourself a Christmas present and a pat on the back. Not to worry though, there is some hope...after all they are not #1.

Thanks. That's an interesting link. But I'm frankly not surprised that it is so corrupt. There was a total power vacuum after Iraq fell, SH made sure no one could step up to the plate to take charge, it's a country locked in the midst of a civil and international conflict, and people are more concerned with fighting insurgents than launching internal investigations to look into fraud, waste, and corruption.
Moreover, the index is based on public perception of government corruption. The Iraqi public is going to distrust their government because it's viewed as a puppet government and each sect believes the government is giving the other too much power. |
