Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
This guy is what we need at strong safety. When we have him up in the box, opponents struggle mightily to run the football on us. He's excellent at open field tackling, and while he's certainly no 21 back there, he showed me something in coverage today.
Huge game for a hard working 6th round special teamer who I believe just played his way into a full time NFL job.

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
I like how Williams is putting Doughty in sports where he can maximize his strengths. It's a good way to keep his confidence level up after he was given the unbearable burden of "replacing" Sean Taylor.

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
did anyone else notice when doughty tackled shockey shockey was pointing to his eyes. I found it curious and later noticed the 21 eye black labels he was wearing. I wonder what he was saying to reed...

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
LaRon is actually playing FS and Doughty filling in as SS. Other than that taunting penalty (which I can excuse a rookie hard hitter for) Landry has played exceptionally. Especially in the absence of #21. As for Shockey- Broken ankle. Talk shit about that #80. I think Shockey said something about ST when pointing to his eyes. What a total herb. Gmen drop next 2 games and miss playoffs...

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
White Devil is definitely playing some good football! Good to see. Nice to see we can build some depth.
Is PP hurt, or did Reed get on ahead of him.

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
He certainly has improved his play and obviously is much more adept at the SS position as opposed to FS. He almost made a couple of pass interference penalties, however, including one against Steve Smith where he failed to get his head around on an underthrown ball. He did the same thing in Dallas when covering Crayton and gave up a 50 yard penalty. The one last night would have given the Giants first and goal on a pass that should have at least been deflected.
I appreciate his gutsy effort, and he's the best option right now, but he and Leigh Torrence are still a liability in coverage. P.S. I know we're all Skins fans and all, but you can't cheer Shockey breaking his leg and say he should "talk shit about that" and then say that you can "forgive Landry for his taunting." If you don't like one you should be equally disgusted with the other.

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
I would bet that he said something to the effect of, "you're no Sean Taylor," which is very true. Shockey talks, that's his game, I don't care for it, but I don't want to see the guy break a fibula and require surgery.

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
Yeah Doughty has very nice insticts and it's been just great to see him step up and prove he belongs in such a hard situation. Also Stephon Heyer is just awesome. An undrafted lineman who plays like a second or third round draft pick is just so sweet. While I'm at it Montgomery is turning into a beast too. We really have had some guys step up. Very good news for us going forward.

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
Very unfortunate about Shockey. Say what you will, he is the emotional leader of the offense and a good TE to boot. The Giants will definitely miss him down the stretch as it gives the inconsistent Manning one less target to throw to.
As far as Shockey taunting Reed, I think it was more out of reverence and respect for Sean Taylor than it was actually putting down Doughtey. I thought it was very classy, if you could say such a thing about Shockey, to have #21 under his eyes. |

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
I must have watched a different game. I saw a number of missed tackles and poor wrapups, especially in run support, from Doughty. He's got a long way to go...
Speaking of which, why is it that our secondary is capable of playing great coverage on one play and then absolultely blowing it the next? Scary. Finally, there is probably nothing I hate more about today's NFL players than when they celebrate after every play - even bad ones! What I mean is that there were several plays where NYG players were poorly covered but *dropped* the ball - and OUR PLAYERS high-fived and chest butted like they did something GOOD! REDICULOUS! |

dont make shit up. Do you honestly think he would be trash talking Sean while wearing tribute eye black to the guy? Its nice to see guys from other teams care for individuals, especially a division rival. |

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
Take your own advice. Luxorreb didn't say he was "trash talking Sean".

Re: Reed Doughty: Excellent Tackler
Anyway, back to Doughty.
I was impressed. He has some work to do, but if he can be a guy Landry can trust (just as Landry was becoming for ST), it's only going to help everyone on D in pass sets.
