No Cap Hell For Us
Holy crap a media member has finally realized that the Skins way of handling the cap is perfectly fine. I have become so tired of explaining this to people. Maybe now everyone will start to understand that they do things one way that isn't necessarily any better or worse cap wise.

Re: No Cap Hell For Us
I was looking forward to JLC's take on this.
The key to the Skins cap management can be boiled down to this: Quote:

I hope Springs restructures, I am very confident that Santana and Clinton both will, Springs just seems questionable

Re: No Cap Hell For Us
Just as Schneed & C. Canuck & others have been saying for a couple years at least.
This is great to hear, but on the other hand, I hope to see a continuation of the approach we took last offseason when a no. of guys were re-signed (not just restructured) & we shopped wisely in the free agent market + kept our draft picks. |

A quick glance at the link and I thought it said "Trust Jsarno On This One."

Re: No Cap Hell For Us
Amen.
"They're cap hell was coming a few years back, but once the CBA got extended and the cap went up and they could go back to their normal restructuring ways, it's all good. Say what you want about Dan Snyder but he's willing to go cash over cap like nobody else." - First off blame JLC for "they're", I just quoted the article. - I agree that we came close to cap hell right before the new CBA got passed. But I'm pretty sure Snyder knew it would get passed since he was one of the most influential owners in the process. - The "cash over cap" statement is right on the mark. Blame Snyder all you want for player selection, but you can never fault him for his cap management. He is the cap master. |

Re: No Cap Hell For Us
Wasn't it Peter King that basically said we were doomed next year? I'm so sick of this guy thinking he is an expert on everything pertaining to the league. He has absolutely no credibility as far I'm concerned.
Kudos to Snyder. He may not be the best owner in the league, but at least he isn't afraid to spend the Benjamins. And giving Todd Collins his private jet, so he could be at the birth of his son, was pure class. |

Re: No Cap Hell For Us
Part of the cap system includes a provision that if you load contracts with incentives that have to be earned and the player does not earn them than you get the unpaid amount back as a credit to your cap. A lot of the cunning teams use this to protect themselves against players who don't produce and to also aid them in managing their cap. Imagine if instead of the Redskins just giving Brandon Llyod a $10 million bonus largely related to signing/roster bonuses and instead weighed it more heavily on incentives that had to be earned? With his obvious lack of production the Skins could have just cut their losses with him, not had to pay him all the money they already have, and in addition get his unearned incentives back as credits on their cap - that would have been smart cap management - not just signing away a huge check on a wing and a prayer. If a player does not have enough confidence that he can reach some of those incentives than let anothter team take a chance on him.
So yes Synder can simply throw more money at the problem but why not use the incentive credit provision to your advantage and increase your cap? Also I beleive Schneed pointed out that you do have to look out for your future somewhat and cannot redo everyone's contract because as you redo a contract you are pushing more dead money onto the cap of future years when you finally do release the player. |

I have always been a person that said, "we'll figure it out, we always do", but I am not as certain this year...well, Of course it will still work out for us, but there is a lot less wiggle room this year as compared to years past. If we are anything, we are good at working that cap for every penny.

Re: No Cap Hell For Us
I am assuming you are referring to what will be known as "the great Giants collapse of 2007"?
