Bowl games & players to watch
Since there is at least one bowl game every night for the next week, I thought it would be cool to discuss some of the players in these games day by day that may be available in the draft.
For the sake of order, let's take a look at today's games: Maryland v. Oregon State BC v. Mich. State Texas Christian v. Houston Of these teams, a couple players to watch (meaning they could help the Skins) are: Erin Henderson, ILB, Maryland (brother of Vikes EJ) - washingtonpost.com He plays inside but is versatile enough to play outside. Jamie Silva, BC Jamie Silva, SS, Boston College - 2008 NFL Draft Scout Profile, Powered by The SportsXchange maybe not much better than Doughty, definitely has a nose for the ball though. 1st team All American. BC always has solid O linemen. Anyone know of anybody else in these games that is noteworthy? |

Re: Bowl games & players to watch
As far as Maryland players go:
Dre Moore is a workhorse. Run stopper and a good inside pass rusher and quick for a guy his size (6-4/311/4.9 40). Top 10 DT in the country, probably a mid to late 2nd round guy, maybe higher if he has a good combine. Erin Henderson is a junior, but a man-child like his brother was. Inside linebacker in a 3-4, but can play outside as well. Some say he's better than EJ... Keon Lattimore (Ray Lewis' brother) and Lance Ball will split the carries in the backfield. Lattimore is the slasher and Ball is the bulldozer. Both seniors looks to be mid to late round draftees in April, and could be servicable backups and Practice Squad guys next year. Joey Haynos is their 6-8 tight end. Big target, good blocker and pass catcher. Should be drafted in the late rounds based on his size. Chris Turner has turned into a pleasant surprise at QB, with Steffy never living up to his potential, and Josh Portis (Clinton's brother) being declared ineligible. They'll have their hands full with Oregon State, but if the defense can hold up, Turner should be able to help leads the Terps to a W.

Re: Bowl games & players to watch
I meant to post more about players in the games this past week but haven't been online as much.
If anyone is watching my Hokies take on Kansas tonight, there are a no. of pro prospects. VT has 10 seniors that are likely to be drafted, plus a few underclassmen that might come out. Kansas has a top corner, Talib I think is his name. He is likely a 1st round pick. Kansas throws the ball a lot but I'm not sure if any of their wr's are big prospects. Players on VT we might be interested in are: Chris Ellis, DE - he was on Kiper's big board last I checked. A solid pass rusher, but only 260 lbs. or so. All 4 WR's - none of these guys is likely to go higher than 3rd round, but the guy I like is Josh Morgan, 6'1 ,220. Has great hands, size & YAC ability. Lacks deep speed. Both cb's - Flowers & Harris. Both are juniors, yet to declare. Xavier Adibi - OLB. He's a lot like Rocky in size and ability. Duane Brown - LT. Could go as high as 2nd round Both DT's - Booker & Powell. Neither will go high, would be good late round picks. |

Re: Bowl games & players to watch
i dont think harris or flowers will go pro this year. i definitely dont think harris should, he is not ready and would struggle to make the jump at this point. adibi would be a great player for us to get, a real playmaker. duane brown is solid but i dont see him becoming a dominant offensive lineman in the nfl. barry booker would be a decent late round prospect, he can get good penetration, kinda small for a dt i believe though. chris ellis will be a good nfl player.

I think Duane Brown is a great prospect. Former TE & great athlete. All he needs is to put on bulk to play LT in the nfl. In 2 years he'll be a solid starter. |

Re: Bowl games & players to watch
I do have a VA bias but heregoes my thoughts on Chris Long....
I would absolutely love to see Long as a redskin but Long is a top 5 pick and we're not going to be there. I want to give him props anyhow. I'm not even sure he got any sacks vs Texas Tech but did anyone watch the game? Double teamed, triple teamed...doesn't matter...he goes after it. Again i don't know the stats but the guy must have batted down 3 or 4 passes. Unbelievable motor and strength. He probably racked up 7-10 QB hurries. No one could block the guy. I think they threw the ball 55+times and he looked like he was better in the 2nd half. How about run defense you ask? Fills gaps like no other. A great tackler. I know this is a moot point but the guy is unbelievable to watch and is going to be a great nfl player imo. BTW...lots of great cb talent at VA Tech. Watch Flowers tonight..he's testing the waters and is projected in the 2nd round. Bud Foster sais he's the most talented CB he's every coached. Foster has coached alot of nfl cb's too including Deangelo Hall. Watch their LBs too...very talented. |

Re: Bowl games & players to watch
Doughty is playing well, maybe they'll stay put at safety. But DT is an area of long term need if nothing else. Golston is decent but isn't a steady starter yet & Griffin is old w/a history of injuries. I hope Griff can stay but they might cut him next year.
