My favorite quote about Todd Collins
It comes from this article (as posted here) about TC's offbeat personality, and a comparison to Cliff Clavin (who must still be popular in Canada):

Re: My favorite quote about Todd Collins
LOL the more I hear about TC the more I love the guy.
Too bad he didn't get his 2nd chance to play years ago. Seems that he could have had a pretty good career. |

Re: My favorite quote about Todd Collins
You can blame Wade Phillips for part of that as he was to replace Jim Kelly in Buffalo after his qb college days at Michigan
His back up days started and never had a 1st string qb get hurt to get a chance |

Re: My favorite quote about Todd Collins
To be honest, I hope we resign him, and I'm on the cusp of hoping we START him next year. And it's not like I don't think Jason Campbell isn't a great fit for us next year and for the long haul. But with Collins playing at this level, wouldn't it be tough to sit him down and be wondering if he could perform at this level for an entire season?

Re: My favorite quote about Todd Collins
To be fair to Phillips, I don't think Collins would be having this level of success without Al Saunders. They go hand in hand.

Re: My favorite quote about Todd Collins
Well, it sounds like TC prepares for a game as well as anyone out there. He's had a long time to prepare with Saunders, so they make a great match. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be prepared with another coordinator.

I agree. Some Qb's are just 'right' for a particular system. TC seems to be at home in this one. He is so sure of himself it seems he is moving in slow motion during his dropbacks.

Will there be serious interest out there from teams looking for a short term starter? Yeah possibly. But at the same time I'm not so sure Collins will look to jet at the first sign of a starting job. He knows this offense and Saunders so well, I'm sure he understands that his success is in part tied to that relationship. And like you said, depending on how the playoffs go who knows... perhaps he will deserve a legit shot at competing for the starting job next year. Campbell better work some serious OT this offseason, because Collins has been very impressive. It will certainly be an interesting story to watch this offseason. |

And the only way to throw the ball before a WR makes his cut is to know the system THAT well. At this stage in his career, Collins needs to be with Saunders. Collins doesn't have time to invest in learning a new system, though he might learn it well after one year, he doesn't have the time. I can guarantee you he'll sign with the Skins for less than market value. At this point, money won't be all that big an issue to the guy, he's just going to want to friggin play. He has sat his entire career. He probably knows that Gibbs and Saunders may have a real hard time sitting him down next season after the way he's playing now.

Now, thats a guarantee that I would like to see happen. Not only do you guarantee that we keep him (which I agree with) But you make the crazy statement that we pay him less than market value. Wow...I can't remember anyone signing with the Skins under market value.

Re: My favorite quote about Todd Collins
I want us to resign Collins and then handcuff him to Jason Campbell for about 6 months. Let Campbell absorb and learn everything he possibly can.
If we can get Collins' understanding of the offensive system into Jason Campbell's head, we've got a killer QB.

I'd say Mike Sellers is way underpaid. I'd also say that though we just resigned Cooley, he's a good bargain. In Collins' case, can't you see the logic there? Why would he want to go anywhere else? If you're 36, going on 37, and haven't played football your entire NFL career, and knowing that QB's careers go downhill after 37 (typically), wouldn't you want to avoid learning new systems? I think Danny will take care of him pretty well. But the guy is in line for a one-year deal a la Jeff Garcia in Tampa (after that great relief appearance in Philly). I bet we don't have to pay him that much to keep him. He's going to want to start, but he's going to want to start for Saunders.

Re: My favorite quote about Todd Collins
This may upset alot of you out there in my Redskin Nation, but here goes. TC has played better then any QB we have had in years, his accuracy and ability to get rid of the ball quick and on target makes me want him as the starting QB for the next two years or until he can't play anymore. If JC watches someone who learns the system as good as TC, maybe he will do the same. It would be nice to see JC not have the deer in the headlights look when he drops back. Go ahead slam me.
