Fassel, Ryan and Zorn, oh my!
From JLC:
"All of my reporting leads to this trio topping the coaching staff. Jim Fassel is expected to be named head coach, and the hold up is negotiations with the Ravens regarding Rex Ryan. As I previously reported, contrary to other reports, the Ravens retain Ryan's coordinator rights and can block a lateral move. They appear to be doing that. The sides may reach an agreement, but Ravens ownership badly wants to keep Ryan, who the players love. Fassel and Ryan spoke as recently as last night sources said and Ryan interviewed with Snyder Sunday night, according to sources. Zorn, as we were the first to report, interviewed for the offensive coordinator job. He is set to depart around 5:40 and if all goes well he would be the leading candidate to replace Al Saunders (with whatever fancy title they want to use). Everyone is waiting to hammer the contract details out but barring a last second change of heart, disaster, whatever, this is how it's shaping up." Redskins Insider |

That means all of the coaches are toast? .. and being replaced? ... Unbelievable!

Re: Fassel, Ryan and Zorn, oh my!
I wonder what in the heck is going threw Joes mind at this point? So much for continuity!
PFT.com POSTED 5:01 p.m. EST, January 23, 2008 'SKINS INTERVIEW ZORN Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins have interviewed Jim Zorn for the position of offensive coordinator. That's presumably bad news for the team's current offensive coordinator, Don Breaux. And for the team's associate head coach-offense, Al Saunders. The flirtation with Zorn is an apparent precursor to the hiring of Jim Fassel to be the franchise's 27th head coach (counting Joe Gibbs twice). And that's bad news for the team's current defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams. Zorn currently is the quarterbacks coach in Seattle, where he has worked since 2001. La Canfora also reports that the Redskins are trying to pry away defensive coordinator Rex Ryan from the Ravens. Despite reports that the Ravens fired their entire coaching staff, the Ravens still hold the rights to Ryan, and could block any attempt by Ryan to interview (or work) elsewhere in a position other than head coach. But, as a practical matter, the Redskins were able to interview Ryan for the position of defensive coordinator while ostensibly interviewing him for the position of head coach. Assuming that Saunders and Williams are released by the Redskins, they'll certainly be in demand elsewhere.

imagine that, an NFL team trying to keep someone that the organization and players love. that is a cool concept.

DS: That thing i was saying a few days ago about continuity being important....yea, i didn't really mean it, just forget i even mentioned it.
Maybe Jim Fassel can call Dave Brown (the gmen x qb). Ya know, he was a good one. I believe he had a coach that is a "QB" guru. I could have coached John Elway and he still would have been great despite me. |

I just realized, the Ravens D is getting pretty old.

You talking about Rex Ryan? Why didn't they just name him head coach if they were so desperate to keep him?

Re: Fassel, Ryan and Zorn, oh my!
Typical Snyder. Just when you believe that he has learned the virtue of stability from Gibbs, Snyder is ready to blow everything up (yet again). We should rightfully be laughingstocks of the NFL if this comes to pass. Don't be surprised if we go back to paying top dollar for past their prime "former" superstars. What does Snyder care? It's all about marketing hype for him anyway. There's no juice in selling the status quo. At least we can return to being the undisputed "Champions of March". I think I'm gonna puke.

The man has a VERY VERY VERY VERY GOOD point - Sometimes in life people cannot or do not want the 'next step' in their career. Perhaps the Ryan's and Williams' of the the league do not make good HC's - it's not a BAD THING to run a Defense on an NFL team... hell, I'll take the gig if they don't want it!
