Re: Soon-to-be-hire? Larry Brooks as the D-Line coach
Wouldn't the obvious answer to all this lead to a coach that is currently under contract, and has already voiced his choices for a staff to Snyder so he can line them all up in advance?
If so, I would suspect it's an offensive minded coach, since a new offensive coordinator was brought in, while the defense, apart from Gregg Williams has been left intact by the front office. |

Virginia Sport Hall of Fame 2000 inductee, and 33 years in the NFL....20+ as an assistant worth of experience. Would be another solid hire. Did Arizona fire him?
There won't be much left to do on the coaching front, I will be curios to see if Byner signs extension or moves on to Tampa? EXCEPT the final piece....we should know about this time next week.....

Interesting to note that Brooks coached under Mariucci in Green Bay and in Detroit. Brooks was also D-line coach in Chicago when Blache was D coordinator.

No doubt. This is a hand picked Blache guy. Solid hire, if it pans out which it would only make sense to.

Another good hire for the Redskins. Brooks has a history with Blache and should be a smooth transition.

GW was known for being ultra-conservative offensively: "As the Bills' head coach, his team was known for highly conservative calls, especially on offense. He was the inspiration for Gregg Easterbrook's designation of "the maroon zone" by constantly punting in opponent territory. Williams was 17-31 as the Bills' coach, and was fired after a 6-10 record in the 2003 season." And given that he spent the last 4 years with Gibbs I doubt that any of that would have changed. On top of that his desire to have things go his way is a feast or famine type ordeal that can easily kill a team going through a rough patch, and given that the Redskins last two playoff trips occured by digging themselves out of a hole I can't help but worry. An offensive minded coach will allow the Redskins to grow as an offense and given that we won't have to worry about 10 step drops with 5 WR's going out for a pass makes me excited about the future. Especially if Mooch is named HC. On top of that Blache is no slouch and has proven himself to be an excellent coordinator during his time with the Bears so the Defense will be fine. Come to think of it as long as the Redskins have a decent D-Coordinator then the Defense will always be fine, or so it seems.

If that's how Williams would have operated an offense, then perhaps the right decision was made. Who knows, maybe Williams' offensive philosophy is what turned Sndyer and Cerrato off? I liked his fiery personality. That and the seemingly overwhelming player sentiment that he should have been retained is why I think most fans wanted him to stay. With Blache, it looks like most of what Williams preached defensively will remain. For the most part, that's a good thing. |

Re: Soon-to-be-hire? Larry Brooks as the D-Line coach
I think most importantly he's worked closely with Blache in the past. That's the main connection to look at here, not one with Mooch. Though it is something to take note of.

This guy is hired "in principle"
ESPN - Brooks agrees to become Redskins' defensive line coach - NFL

If Mooch gets hired, we'll know we were wrong on this one. But I'd bet heavily on Fassel or Schwartz.
