Bill Belichick possible candidate (Pro Football Talk Speculation)
ProFootballTalk.com -- The Best Pro Football Scoop on the Internet
After meeting for a second time with Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks on Tuesday, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and Executive V.P. of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato are believed to be heading to Arizona for possible meetings with Steve Mariucci and/or Jim Fassel, according to David Elfin of the Washington Times. After the Super Bowl, Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and/or Pats offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could be in play. Some are speculating that the Redskins might be considering a run at Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who could be inclined to move on if his team secures its fourth Super Bowl win in seven years via a perfect 19-0 season. But such speculation overlooks the fact that Belichick would want to run the show anywhere that he goes. In Washington, no coach is going to run the show -- as evidenced by the fact that the Redskins are already hiring the guys who'll be working for the coach who eventually is hired. This approach necessarily runs off any potential head coach who is inclined to call all of the shots.

Re: Bill Belichick possible candidate (Pro Football Talk Speculation)
This would be a dream scenario to me. Belichick is from Annapolis MD also. He brings along Josh Mcdaniels to take Saunders' Associate HC Offense title, and then..... WOW WOW WEE WOW, they sign Randy Moss as well. WHOA Of course none of this will happen, but a guy can dream....:cool-smil

as much as I hate him, if we can get to Super Bowls sounds good to me. This could explain why Danny wants to wait till after the superbowl is over lol.

Re: Bill Belichick possible candidate (Pro Football Talk Speculation)
Um, something tells me that this might not happen. While I do think it's highly possible Belichick steps down after this year, he's not going to dive right back in with the Redskins, or with anybody. He would probably pull a Bill Cowher and chill out for a while.
Still, you can bet that Danny would be willing to pay coach K to the Lakers money to make this happen, so I guess you can never ever rule anything completely out. |

Quote:
He will continue to coach as long as there is money to be made in NE. He didn't back down when he was up by 30+ against Washington. He has the chance to be known as the greatest head coach of all time. The only coaching record left after another SB win, is total wins. He has the best shot at that with NE right now. |

PFT's accuracy sucks. this isn't happening. I mean, he'd leave behind tom brady and a great team for what? his owner can match whatever snyder can offer him.
i mean, if anyone can make it happen, it's lds... but it's a REAL stretch. |

As much as I can't stand the Pats, they are a world class organization and a proven champion. Sure they got caught cheating, but it's something any smart team would do. And I'm sure a few others did.... Belicheck in DC is ok with me!!!

I am not saying that I do not want Bill, I would welcome him with open arms. It is just not very likely though.

So, the master plan of Snyder and Cerrato comes out - everything they are doing is a smoke screen hiding their plan to hire Bill Belichick.

Re: Bill Belichick possible candidate (Pro Football Talk Speculation)
This is complete nonsense!
If Belichick is dumb enough to leave the Pats for another team (considering what he has going), there is no way he will be th coach he is there. He has a great situation with personnel, coaches, management, and fans. Furthermore, if the argument is that he has nothing more to prove in NE, what the hell does he have to prove here? Then if it switches to the money angle, Bob Kraft has an equally deep pocket when it comes to the matter of Belichick and Brady, so don't think its gonna be a money issue. Finally, the posturing/smoke screening along with the recent coaching hires doesn't seem to indicate any sort of Belichick move to the skins. It wreaks of the intent to hire an inexperienced head coaching candidate who will need a system already in place. I promise you, the warpath members, that I will shave my head completely (and post the pics) on the first day of the NFL draft this year if Bill Belichick is on the payroll of the Washington Redskins in any capacity at that time!

Re: Bill Belichick possible candidate (Pro Football Talk Speculation)
This is horrible. I just heard that when they get back from Arizona, that they are going to talk to G. W. Bush for the head coach spot. I think G.W's contract is up this year.

Re: Bill Belichick possible candidate (Pro Football Talk Speculation)
The way PFT writes its stories is always important to keep an eye on. If they say "league sources" or "according to ..." then, generally speaking, they're citing another proven source. Whether the source is correct on the matter or not is a different matter.
But "Some are speculating" almost always mean either they themselves have concocted the rumor and are posting it to see what the reaction will be (and get some hits to their site of course), or they saw it on some other message board where someone started it without any substance. Long story short. It could happen, but it's as likely right now as That Guy winning the Heisman Trophy next year.
