Re: The Coordinators
Is anyone else a little apprehensive about Blache?

Re: The Coordinators
From the sounds of it, Blache won't be around too long anyways. However, it'll bring continuity to the defense for the next few years until he can mold his replacement.

Re: The Coordinators
I've got mixed feelings about Blache. On the one hand, he knows the system and the players and is well respected. On the other hand, I don't totally understand overhauling the top coaching positions and hiring a guy who is going to be gone in a year or so. That's a recipe for additional turnover.....something I could do without.

Re: The Coordinators
Well heck, it probably would be much easier just hiring Blache as the head coach if he wanted. Especially if he wants that much control. It certainly limits the Redskins to what type of head coach (offense vs defense) they can hire.

Re: The Coordinators
I really like Blache and still think he was robbed by the Niners when they hired Dennis Erickson to be their head coach instead of him. I had actually (along with Daseal I think) endorsed him as Gibbs' successor over Williams a couple of years ago.
But that was then, this is now. I understand that he's well respected by the players, fellow coaches, and front office. And I know that his promotion was highly recommended. But, clearly he's not looking at the long term here so you have to wonder if it was the best move to wave our "continuity" flag with Blache. I suspect though (somewhat educated guess) that one of his tasks over the next year or two is to develop Kirk Olivadotti into a defensive coordinator. By the way, is it just me or does "The Coordinators" seem like it's going to turn into the modern day version of "The Aristocrats" "Blah, blah, blah, insert dirty joke, blah, blah, blah, vulgarity, blah, blah, blah, sick, twisted, throw up in your mouth visual, blah blah blah" "What do you call these guys?" "The Coordinators!"

Re: The Coordinators
I actually like that Blache has a mind of his own and will not be intimidated by Vinny & Danny. I do think there could be problems if they hire a defensive minded head coach like Meeks who would have more to say about the direction of the defense.

Re: The Coordinators
He sounds pretty rough around the edges and we saw how that worked out with Lindsey and even Williams to an extent.

Re: The Coordinators
That's interesting. Do you have any inside info? It sounds like Kirk is a Belichick type guy, i.e., a guy who knows facts and stats like you wouldn't believe and is very meticulous.

Seriously though, no I just know that KO is like the poster child for "continuity" there. He's been with the team for about 8 years now and he's slowly worked his way up the ladder there dabbling in several different aspects of the team. Vinny and Danny really like him a lot and have high expectations of him over the next few years, or so I've heard. Interestingly enough, his father Tom was the NY Giants Linebackers Coach under...Jim Fassel.
