my xbox 360 is crapping out

It's been freezing up on me a lot lately and today when I turned it out blank screen, no video, no sound. I tried hooking it up to another TV, same results. No ring of death though... and I can't get it to even recognize a controller. When I put in a game and turn it on the fan doesn't even kick on.

I'm so bumming, I'm out of the warranty period too. MS will fix it for $99 plus tax. Anyone know of any ways to fix it yourself??

Do any lights come on at all? If not, it could be the power supply. If lights are coming on, it sounds like it could either be the processor has been fried (especially if the fan isn't coming on,) or the motherboard is toast.

I'm starting to think maybe I should get a PS3 instead of an XBox360.

I have played both countless times. If you need a new AirConditioner window unit sound in your house, go with the 360. How annoying that a turbo fan has to be running to stay cool. Have you heard it? (if you've been in the room with one, you'd know)

Simple logic. Buy hardware from Sony, not Microsoft. Duh.

Go Japanese for your gaming needs Matty.

The controller issue sometimes happens to me. If you hold both the wireless button on the controller and the console at the same time, you can fix that.

But the lack of video and sound isn't really something that you can fix yourself...unless the problem is in the wire itself.

Someone was talking about a method of loading a 360 drive in a pc bay in another thread. I'd be interested to see how that works... Might solve alot of the problems with the 360.

Turns out I've got the red ring of death after all. MS will fix it but I've gotta ship it out and probably won't have it back for at least 3-4 weeks. I can't go that long with no gaming, I mean c'mon I'll go crazy especially now with football season over with. So I went out this afternoon to buy another one, and after trips to Wal-Mart, Target, GameStop, and K-Mart, I finally found one at Toys R Us... I have no idea why it was so hard to find. I'm just going to have the other one fixed and I'll turn around and sell it to a friend or something.

Matty same thing happen to me I am on my third 360. I don't mind everytime MS has been super nice replaced the unit free of charge and even gave me a free Xbox Live membership.

Personally I would rather play a unit that is fun and actually has games to play then one that sucks and is overpriced. I have a PS3 as well and yes it has never broke but it never gets played. Maybe that is why Sony PS3 last longer, due to lack of use!

As you know this has happened to many people! It sucks losing your gaming system for a few weeks, but I have both and the 360 is still the best for FPS/Sports multiplayer gaming fun. PS3 online doesn't even come close "yet".

Stick with it! I am on my 3rd one and should be the last as they have found the problem that causes the 3 lights of death.

A lot of my friends have the 360 so changing systems at this point really isn't an option. I bought a 2 year replacement plan with my new one just to be safe.

I have a friend who did the towel wrap trick on his XBox after he got the ring of death and it worked. From what I understand it re-solders something inside that becomes loose due to the heat. Might be worth a try but if you have a warranty then the best thing to do is send it back in. Heres a link just in case.
