Get Well Micah Doughty
Twenty one months old, just undergone a kidney transplant, and is currently dealing with a high fever.
Fevers after transplants can be indicative of the body rejecting the kidney, or other types of infection. Sometimes it's serious, sometimes it can be fought off relatively easily with IV antibiotics. If you pray, send one up for Micah, Reed, and the rest of his family. I can't imagine what Reed's going through as a father. Big ups to Reed, quickly becoming one of my favorite 'Skins. washingtonpost.com

Well said and couldn't agree more. Not even two years old and to have
already had these types of problems. Will say a prayer for Micah and his family. |

Definitely hope he gets well soon.
Reed is definitely a guy I root for hard. Such a sad story.

Re: Get Well Micah Doughty
I have met Reed twice. He is a real nice guy and I hate that he is having to go through this. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

Re: Get Well Micah Doughty
Redskins.com reports the little boy is doing better and fever not related to kidneys. Fever was from a virus and is expected to go home in day or two.
Doughty was at OTA's today. |

Re: Get Well Micah Doughty
I pray for Micah to make it and lead a normal life, his dad is a role model to which most NFL players should emulate (Fred Davis, I hope you are taking notice). I hope Reed has a long career with the Redskins as I have come admire this guy.

Re: Get Well Micah Doughty
Considering they weren't sure Micah was going to make it this far, it sounds like he is doing pretty well. At least Doughty doesn't have to worry about even making the team, too.

Re: Get Well Micah Doughty
I'm definitely rooting for Reed Doughty and his son and wife to make it through this. This is a very sad story and I'm glad that they've been able to get this far, hopefully he becomes a healthy little boy and will be able to live a good long life. Reed and his wife have a lot of perseverence and faith in them and they should be proud.

Re: Get Well Micah Doughty
For Doughty, Good News On Son
Doughty Gets Good News On His Ailing Son Reed Doughty was back at Redskins Park on Monday, but his heart was with his son Micah. Doughty left Redskins mini-camp on Sunday to go to a local hospital to be with Micah, who developed a fever over the weekend. Micah underwent a kidney transplant earlier this year, complicating matters. It turned out that Micah's fever was unrelated to the transplant. As of Monday afternoon, Micah's condition had improved. He is expected to be released from the hospital in a day or two. Still it was a scary couple of days for Doughty and his wife Katherine. Micah's temperature topped out at 105.8. Because of the transplant, he is not able to fight viruses Good too hear it wasn't because of his transplant, and hopefully he will get better.

Re: Get Well Micah Doughty
Good stuff. When you hear high fever after transplant, the first concern is that the body's immune system is recognizing the kidney as a foreign invader and ramps up the white blood cell count (causing the fever) and attacking the kidney.
You also worry about serious bacterial infection. But it sounds like this was a nasty virus. The little guy can certainly handle that and more, if he's as tough as his dad is. And he does seem to be that tough. Not much is worse in life than little kids getting really sick. Glad to hear he's on the mend.
