Slowest sports day of the year?
I think today is the slowest: the day after the baseball all-star game. No baseball, no football yet, no basketball, no hockey, Olympics haven't started, not even any golf.
(No, it doesn't deserve a thread, and yes, I am bored... )

Re: Slowest sports day of the year?
Yeah, we are on the verge of the British Open. For me the day after the Superbowl is a bittersweet day. On the one hand, with both pro and college football being finished for months, I feel this profound emptiness. On the other hand, I suddenly have all this free time, it's as if I go from working two jobs to one.
I enjoy following basketball and the PGA Tour, but those are really just diversions for me. Football is a way of life. |

THe silence before the storm. TRAINING CAMP STARTS SUNDAY!! That just means that football season is starting and we can all hope for a super bowl run no matter how bad the team looks.

Here's something to get you through the rest of the day (like 2 hours, but still):

Re: Slowest sports day of the year?
For me the sports season has been over for a while. I follow the Nats and watch their games occasionally right now but baseball as a whole isn't that interesting to me watching on t.v. The sports season ended when the Caps and Wiz both got eliminated from the playoffs lol. That's the thing I like about watching football. When it's over hockey and basketball have only been going for a couple months and it keeps you busy until the Finals and the NHL playoffs are over. Baseball is nice but it's not riveting to watch for me like hockey or basketball.

After the season I totally agree about the bittersweet feeling. On one hand I'm depressed that the season is over, on the other I love the fact that my Sundays are suddenly wide open. |

You wait that long to crack a beer? You'd really have it made if said g/f had a beer waiting for you when you woke up
My wife understands and has embraced the Sunday routine...sometimes she's more into it than I am. Early breakfast, showered and dressed in Skins gear, and in front of the TV by 12 to watch Fox Pregame and then 1pm Skins game. I concede the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the 4pm game for dinner and family time, then we'll flip between the Sunday night game and Fox's lineup after putting the baby to bed.

Enjoy these days, because one day you will have a wife and kids and days like that one exists. Not to say there isn't a lot of fun in having a family but sitting around for a whole day watching football isn't going to happen (assuming you are not a dead beat father/husband). I watch the Skins then go out and play with my son for the remainder of the day, at this point I would not trade that for all the NFL tickets and HD tvs in the world. The older my son gets the less I want to sit in front of the TV on a nice Sunday afternoon watching football. I still love the Skins but as I get older they are not such a pull on my life anymore. At some point he will enjoy watching football too and that is when it will be real fun to watch the Skins with my son rooting on. |

Anyway, we usually have a few people over and someone cooks dinner. I usually make Chili a few times a season. We had a fish fry. I made a chicken and rice casserole. My roommate once made baked potato soup and wings out of drumsticks...it was bad ass! |

I totally agree, once I have kids, I'll feel a lot less like sitting on the couch all day. Pretty much football season is the only day I can sit inside all day and do nothing now. |
